The map is now available here!
--------------------------------------------------

Lords and ladies, I would like to present to you, for your Stronghold entertainment, a new map,

Tales of Robin Hood

The year is 1225. Robin Hood, his parents dead, is on his way to Nottingham, seeking to join with the King's Foresters and keep the deer in Sherwood Forest.

He stumbles across a group of them in the forest. Asking him where he is going, he replies that he is going to Nottingham to become a forester. They scoff at this, claiming he carries such a stout bow in pretense - it's likely he can't even draw it.

Robin is enraged, and bets his life that he can hit any target the foresters choose. A herd of deer sweeps into view, and the forester hastily tells Robin to shoot a great hart.

Robin hits his mark, but for a high price. The foresters seize him, and make ready to take him into town to serve as an example to any other would-be poachers.

On the way however, he is freed by those conscripted to pull him into town, and he boldly rescues a pair of outlaws in the hands of the foresters, and escapes into the Greenwood. Now Robin Hood, and his new companions, Will Stutely, Much the Miller's Son, and the rest of the outlaws hiding in the woods, seek vengeance against the foresters and their master, the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Now, on to the pictures...

The Sheriff sits in his tower in Nottingham Castle.

The Nottingham town square.

The Sheriff is not content to leave all the forest to you - his men will do their best to keep you at bay.

In the caves in a remote part of the Greenwood, Robin Hood makes camp, and begins recruiting those who would fight the tyranny of the Sheriff and the forest laws.

Under the tossing branches of the great trees of Sherwood, Robin's men defy the authorities, feasting on the King's deer, and waiting for the day they can overthrow the Sheriff!

This map is currently in progress, nearing completion. Coming soon to a downloads section near you!

This map is actually meant to replace one I spent a lot of time working on a while ago. I built the entire map, all the way through the scripting, before I put the trees in. Then to my dismay, I found there was something wrong with the map - every single tree on it would die within months after the beginning of the game. I gave up on it for a long time following that.

Finally, I decided I would remake the map. Not only would I remake it, but it would be far superior to the map I had first made, in terms of playability as well as map design. It took me a long time of on-and-off work, but I'm finally close to completing it. I'm currently in the playtesting stage, and I'm pleased with how the map is coming together.

If you're interested in playtesting, let me know!

Sad to hear that, I had the same problem once... one thing that could help (depending on the scripting) might be to turn the time off in the game, as then no tree will ever die. Or at least have some events to trigger "phases" with time off.

But it's good to hear you remade the map and created something better this way. Definitely looks promising! Looking forward to more pictures/info about the map!

A great map with some interesting details and a cool setting that is definitely worth playing.

I made a (long) comment in the downloads section, might review the map.

Link to the map here.

(I really like that ghost next to the Sheriff that turns his head away when Robin walks up the stairs )

You can play it now, it's in the downloads section. I plan on updating it however once space clears up on my project board for such a task.
