Yo, it's the newest noob, on the forums. Thanks for havin' me.

I spent most of my night tonight searching for the Stronghold 2 Manager, the one that let's you add AIs to multiplayer matches, as my friend and I wanted to coop against AI's in Stronghold 2 (which he prefers over Legends, due to a bad experience with Siegfried's frost giants crushing his everything), and, as you probably already have guessed, the short investigation turned up very few leads, most of which lead nowhere.

The fact that the manager existed and that people claimed that it worked proves one of the following: It's possible to enable multiplayer AI, or a long time ago, there was a modding conspiracy that a bunch of people were in on that still manages to make people look stupid today.

Rdkill claimed that it was as simple as changing some 0's to 1's and that anyone could pull it off, but where are these 0's, and why can't I pull it off? For the life of me, I could not find any decompilers for the .dlls or .dat files that are in the stronghold 2 folders (not that's I've been trying for that long), so am I looking in the wrong place? Has the answer been staring me right in the face the whole time? Am I stupid, or is it not as simple as Rdkill claimed? Am I extremely tired having been up four hours longer than I meant to be? I can answer one of those questions, and the answer is yes, very much so.

Anyway, can anybody help me out here; answer my questions? Where would I look to enable the AI in multiplayer, and how would I go about editing the correct files, or am I just coming about this all wrong?

I'm new to modding games in general, let alone modding a game without mod support from the devs, so sorry if this whole thing just sounds absolutely noobish.

At this point, I've considered searching for the actual SH2 Manager to be a pointless effort, so I'd like for everyone to focus on the enabling AI thing above, but if somebody can get me the version of the SH2 manager for 1.4.1, I'd appreciate it.

Thank you for your time.

I also hope it is possible to find it, I would also like to be able to play games you described against ai lords... Unfortunately this may be the answer.

Addition: This gives some hope:

Have you read that? Honestly, I haven't, I'm on my phone now, but maybe we could figure out what to do from that.

Sadly, no. That's where my search for this mod started. This is also where Rdkill states that it's switching 0's to 1's, but it's not actually stated what is done nor where it is done.

All that can be taken from that thread is that multiplayer AI can be enabled somehow, and that people wanted it and that it worked.

Everything you can google about the SH2 Manager, I probably already have seen. However, if anybody finds any information that seems prevalent, feel free to link it in the thread. I'm probably not the only person who could use the information.

They also mentioned that the place where we need to switch those 0's and 1's are related to the start screens that in single player and multiplayer... Unfortunately this could be anywhere from config file to exe file...

That would be really great if we were able to play against ai lords in multiplayer. Did you manage to find any way we could contact rdkill?

ADDITION:
Now I found this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59O3Gfy9_MU

I wrote a comment there, as the link given doesn't work. Also someone wrote there that it doesn't work with Steam version but only with retail version of the game.

Hehe, now back to bed.

Just to drop few more words here... I've taken a look into the old tread again and now I got feeling that I is not just about few 1's and 0's... I mean, he did enable Ai lords in mp, but there were some issues though which he needed to solve. Maybe he did all that but I just have a feeling that FF was aware of those issues and that that's the reason why the locked the option. It wouldn't be simply enabling the option - the game would need to be patched so it would work for everyone.

Hopefully we do have some alternatives such as starting a game as opponents and struggling against bandits in their camps etc... It's not the same, but still...

I have good news! One of the original fans of the mod sent the installation file. This is where you can download it from, but be aware, it is likely that your antivirus will detect it as a troyan. I believe that this is nothing harmful, and I will try it later. Right now I don't have the other PC of mine here, but I will have it tomorrow, so I will try it then.

Another issue is that they said it works with 1.3.1 version, so I am unsure whether this is going to with 1.4.1 version, but we shall see that. Even if it doesn't we are so much steps ahead than we used to be, and yes - many of us are able to reinstall the game and install the 1.3.1 version to have fun in multiplayer.

Also, another thing I would love if we could manage to solve is to get rid of the exe file if possible but that would exceed my knowledge.

I used Stronghold Manager for years.

Yes it did give most AV programs a false positive which as far as I know was never worked out. I simply manually added it to the exempt list in my AV.

So today I went to play SH2 with my son. We haven't played in around two years. First we discovered that multiplayer does not work anymore because GameSPY shut down. Then I found out GAMERANGER was hosting it but SH2 isn't listed on it and I found a few threads about many players having problems getting it to work.

It seems GAMERANGER may have given up on SH2.

Is anyone able to play SH2 in multiplayer anymore?

Thanks.

It is there actually, I have tried it right now. It would be a shame if they gave it up, as there are usually about five rooms open for the game.

When you run GameRanger, and when you are in the main window you can see a dropdown menu where you can choose list of games you want to see at a moment - you can choose "All Games", and you should be able to find Stronghold 2 there. You are also able to make your own list of some games - for example I have several lists and "Stronghold" is one of them where I included Stronghold, Stronghold Crusader (and Extreme), and Stronghold 2.

There are also ways to add a game manually if GameRanger doesn't manage to "detect" it itself, but we should see if that is necessary yet.

I hope this helps?
