I was wondering who is in the Kingdoms alpha test. I thought it would be interesting to see who is playing/testing.

EDIT:
Please feel free to post in here even if you are not actually playing in the Kingdoms alpha test. You might want to know more about it and testers are now allowed to describe the game and their experiences

Oh. And I should have said: I am involved in the alphatest. Indeed I have played in all the alpha tests so far.

I am having a great time in this one building up my villages

I'm in too, and this time I don't get my sleep ruined like during the first two alpha tests though I find it a little hard staying at the time limit per day I have given myself.

Yes. It is terribly addictive! I have not been so hooked on a game for quite a while :P

Maybe I should be rationing my time on it like you are? Sounds very sensible.

Just keep in mind the game is played a bit differently when not being that much online.

In case someone wonder, ericgolf probably knows I am testing the game as I use the same name while testing as I use here while I do not know what name ericgolf is using while testing.

Shhh :P

I wanted to play this time with no reputation behind me and see what it was like as an unknown.

It is quite different this time around as there are many many more players. Factions seem to be getting established now and players banding together in some places.

ah, the Alpha test. So, I'm outing me as one taking part, too.

Two things I like most: that many different sections effect popularity, and that trading is needed between your own villages and with neighbours.

Hope to find many items in a future SH3 that allows mapmaking.

I played the first two alphas. I didn't join this one until about a month ago and have been implementing the economic stratagems that I developed last game.

I started about, oh what was it... 14 days late? Looks like I am slowly catching in on the slack by using my knowledge from A1 and 2. I am also having some nice chats with a nice fellow from Poland. Well he has not tried attacking me yet so I suppose he is as nice as he sounds

Compared to alpha 1 and 2, this time around is strangely quiet, only a tiny bit of tit for tat here and there. Can it really be true there is nothing brewing under the surface?

Yes. In the previous alphatest there were maga battles going on frequently, with villages getting raised and the defeated players ending up having to restart in a village way out on the edge of things.

This time there have been battles but not very many. I have only found out about them later. I am not sure but there seem to have been more AI castles this time. (maybe I am wrong). Perhaps players have been satisfied with fighting the Snake, the Pig and the Rat?

I also find there are more AI castles this time. One of the reasons for the amount of battles could be two things: In A1 and 2, people used a lot of time on warfare so now they like to try out focusing more on the eco aspect of the game. The second thing is likely that it now requires more honour to level up which means it takes longer time to do research. My forecast is the game will get more 'lively' when people have poked enough into the eco stuff in the game. At that time there will be lots of powerfull castles around and lots of big armies instead of as before where it started small and then slowly build up.

Wow, how did you manage to get a village? There are so many play testers on the activated area of the map that it is a pain finding a new village one can buy if one don't like to steal one from a neighbour thereby triggering WW3

I think the parish I'm in wasn't completely full yet. I was fortunate enough to have a guy who barely played and had a virtually inactive village next to me, which i pillaged 3 times with peasants near the start which helped a lot with my construction.

Someone has annoyed my House a bit too much so with a bit of luck I'll have my third village in about half an hour. With a bit of unluck, well, I might have been part in starting WW3 as I noted my target had allready lost one of his villages...

So ericgolf, you just had to sneak a post in between

i really wish i would've spent my early points on the arts cause it would've made getting research points much easier.

Building churches also give a good boost to gaining Honour, just remember they have a large foot-print and also does not come cheap. This goes especially for the Cathedral.

Do churches and stuff take up a lot of room/citizens? Also what do you think is more effective, banquets or religion?

Edit: Oh and is entertainment any good?

I have had very few banquets this time. (I researched the first 4 to get the buildings and make goods to help at parish)

I sell the goods to make cash.

I had not realised I was being so sneaky, PCD :P

Churches only take up building space in your village and provides for the happines multiplyer. Entertainment buildings also provide but you will have to do some planning as the amount of honour they provide depends on distance from the Keep in your village.

Banquets provides honour directly while religious buildings adds to the happiness multiplyer. So, if the happiness is say 50 in your village, and the happiness multiplyer is also 50, you earn 2500 Honour a day. If you have 2 of each of the first 4 banquetting goods buildings you can easily gain another 2500 honour a day by holding banquets. If you have the time for it you can make sure to get villages that support the remainder of banquetting goods thereby earning even more instant honour each day by moving banquetting goods to a central village for maximizing the effect of holding banquets.

I would say maxing out on banquets give the most honour a day but it also require more time online. If you have very little time for playing online then using buildings adding to the happines multiplyer is the way to go, it's less as it depends on the happiness in each village.

One of my biggest problems is the immigration rate, it's starting to get ridiculous, it takes like 4 hours for a person to immigrate which is barely enough to keep up with my buildings, much less to train an army. How do people get armies of like 500?

For rising the immigration rate, bribe the peasents in the village (you can also tax them but if the icon at the top becomes red they will start leaving). Bribing naturally requires you to have some gold in the coffers. Setting food and ale consumption to 4x also helps on immigration.

How people get armies of 500: Research "Command" (I think it is) fully and don't have any scouts, monks or traders in the village.

For hiring an army as fast as possible when at war, you will need to have lots of gold and lots of ale and food stored (and naturally weapons and armor for the units). Then select a building in the village and in the menu to the right turn all industries off. Buy the troops you need, then use full bribe and 4x food and ale for getting people to immigrate as fast as possible to your village. The fastest immigration rate is as far as I remember, 1 peasent arriving every 2 minute.

Thanks for the tips . The strategy in this game continually reminds me of stronghold crusader .

One other thing: I have the lowest level of scouting which means it's practically impossible to forage anything. Would it be worthwhile to upgrade it or would my research points be better spent elsewhere?
