The Contest Ideas thread seems to have expired. I'm making it to save Kester the trouble.
I'll start with one

Best Eye-Candy Contest-Judged on appearence of eye-candy itself and surrounding landscape

Hmm...
Er...
Let me have a think.
...
Um...
I KNOW!! (just as the power and the lights comes on)

Who can create the best seige map or invasion map with a huge seige in it.

How it works: Up-load a map;
the moderater rates it;
Map Design, Story/Instructions and Creativity atomatically score a 5;
score depends entirely on Playabillity and ballance.

Rules (a.k.a. suggestions)

-No extra events (allaies to the rescue, Cede-castle, ect.)

-No free-builds seiges useing the F1 key (although skermish may be aloud)

-Old maps may be used.

-No economic (dis)advantages.

-Building placement disabled.

-Castle must be intact at the start.

-Scene must be set in the middle ages (
5th - 15th centuries)

Just a thought...

I'd stick with the Historical-Castle thing...though it might get hard to dig up some old castles that hasn't been done yet and that are still hard to reconstruct. Although I think that only Invasion should be allowed, sieges are simply not as fun, nor is economics missions.

thats purly an opinion

I love a well thought out seige as much or even more than a simple invasion . I also find Economic missions a great deal of fun also, i think Kester for one would agree with that

I asume that's a yes then?

Quoted from Jasper Tudor:

I personally thought that that was getting a bit boaring...

And there are beginners wishing to join *points at self* so if it's too hard...

I agree with economic missions. Not sure about sieges

It's not a contest if it isn't hard

Yes, I'd agree with that

It's also fun to have *some* enemy forces around, just to liven things up, even if they aren't used in an invasion.

Guess I'll go ahead and sticky this new thread.

I know. There should be a challenge, but possible for at least one beginner.

I'm sure that you, and anyone by the way, could do a decent, or better, map based on, for example, Conwy Castle.

So basically you want
A map
A completed castle in the map
No buildings availiable to be placed ingame
A huge invasion
A rater
Lastly, a competition for the best scenario using this rules

or am I completely wrong?

I have anathor contest idea, someone writes up some things used in a map like
river, sea, grassland, normal land, dirt, terrain height up to mid-level and so on.
Then everybody tries to make a map with only that things in it, the map that uses the terrain options in the most original or good-looking way wins.

I like that idea. For an added challenge, only one size available, either 200X200 or 160X160

Or this, you get a map with landscape and a castle, further nithing just the map, next everybody puts in a story line and some events, you can also (maybe) explain some things you thought were strange on the map through the storyline.\
again, best entry wins.
Just an idea

What if we start a contest over maybe...say 2 months with every week anather contest like in week 1 a contest for the best looking minimap, the winner gets 1 point, then the next week a contest about making the best looking piece of river WITHOUT any trraining or vegetation around it, again, best entry wins, then at the end of the 2 months, the player with most points wins, for additional fun, make a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, 1st gets 3 points, 2nd 2 pojns and 3rd 1 point
Can be done right?

P.S: does anyone ever looks here anyways???

We just had a historical challenge. This will be one for non-designers, as well as designers.

It'll probably start this weekend, or as soon as I can write up the rules.

what I would like would be a library of screenshots... kinda like the recent conetest but every week as well as the other poll you could votes which pic would go into the library, giving everyone a chance to show off the eyecandy they produced... sigh if only i learned that you can make invasions on freebuild BEFORE the contest was over... I had an awesome battle last night that prob wuda won 1st in "most glorious battle scene" it lasted over 3 hrs and i won I cudnt resist wen Sparrow said to try a few "very large" invasions at once for a challenge... i had 7 at once... ill upload a pic here once i get my site online...

So like a new album of just the best picture of the week, voted on by everyone? That's a good idea

Ok, I know that the Art contest has just ended, but I still really want to have another Historical Castle Competition. I realize that it'll probably take some time before there's any new contest at all, and even longer untill the next Historical Castle Competition, but I have some suggestions for which castles that could be up for recreating:

Cahir Castle, Ireland. Didn't know about it untill just now, but it looked awesome and the minimap seemed recreatable.

Denbigh Castle, The UK (Wales). I did an attempt at this castle some time ago, but failed. I feel that I have the skills needed now, but honestly, I could think of better castles to construct, but if it was in a competition...

Caernarvon/Caernarfon, The UK (Wales). Famous, big, good-looking. What else needs to be said?

Warwick Castle, The UK. Basically the same as above. Perhaps even more famous though.

Marienburg/Malbork, Poland. This castle is perhaps too big to be recreated in the Stronghold Editor, but it would be nice to see if anyone managed to do it.

That's all for now, I'll probably add more later on.
