The 2nd Stronghold Historical Castle Competition

As designing a historical castle was the most requested contest idea in The Jousting Ground, Stronghold 2 Heaven is proud to present the 2nd Historical Castle Competition.

Unlike previous contests, entries in this contest may be submitted from the original Stronghold, Stronghold Crusader, or Stronghold 2 games. If sufficient entries are submitted from each game, then we may decide to have a winner for each.

We have selected 7 castles for you to choose from (including 3 Crusader castles), and to get you started have found some historical information and floor plans on each of them.

•Carreg Cennon in Wales [castle info * floor plan]
•Warkworth in England [castle info * floor plan]
•Harlech in Wales [castle info & floor plan * aerial photo]
•Conwy in Wales [castle info * floor plan * aerial photo]

Crusader castles:

•Margat (Marqab) in Syria [castle info * floor plan]
•Krak de Chevaliers in Syria [castle info * floor plan]
•Mamure Kalesi in Turkey [castle info * floor plan]

Your entry should be as close to your chosen castle as possible, but can be of any of the available mission types. We'd like you to base any scenario details on historical events, but we're open to some creative 'What if?' scenarios as well.

So what exactly are we asking you to do?

•The map and castle should be based, as accurately as possible, on one of the 7 historical castles listed above.
•The scenario should be based on a historical event involving that castle, or on a feasible What if?

Other rules and notes:

•The closing date for entries is 30th November 2005.
•All scenario categories can be used.
•We will only accept scenarios that have not been uploaded before, but you can submit a scenario based on a castle already featured on Stronghold Heaven.
•Entries will be judged by the SH Staff on accuracy, historical merit and (of course) playability.

First prize: game of the winner's choice, up to US$40
Second prize: choice of HG t-shirt or hat

Entries should be sent to kester@heavengames.com

Good luck!
The Stronghold Heaven Staff

There's a great free program called Picasa which can resize photos in a batch. I've come to use it quite a bit. (I know, now I tell you.)

Ok I entered in this contest, it's my first! (I did the representation of Krak des Chevaliers in the crusader editor) I've already sent the mail to Kester...it's simple and not hard. It's great that all entries can be posted after the contest to receive comments and help

It's too late for me to join the contest now, but I'm really looking forward to finally see a nice version of Harlech Castle.
Also looking forward to Carreg Cennin, one of my favourite castles.

Sorry Kester but if i could can i re-submit conwy please?

Not much time left i know but i feel ive come up with a solution to a problem which would make the map better.

And i may change the invasions from what is at present the wolf and rat to just the snake (fits the bill better ).
Let me know,

Arthus

Nat, I've just seen your minimap (I know my reply's a bit late), but if Carreg Cennin castle isn't aloud by Stronghold (in terms of hight), then why did you make it even more off-scale by putting the surrounding countryside on mid plain?
Especially since it is surrounded on three sides by a typicle welsh vally.

I use the name Smyther everywhere now. Pronounced like "smiler" with a "the" in the middle.

Lord Edy i think you'll find its lower than you think

By raising the grass with the raise tool you can achieve that brown colour (which i love ) without having to place the mid height level. Its no trick but it may explain why you came to that conclusion.
By the way NAT great minimap (its a shame our maps arnt being judged in an equal sence). Some of us in higher ranks have certain disadvantages

But still, that would mean that you couldn't place wheat farms, etc. and besides Carreg Cennin Castle

Plus I can't stand brown maps that look like that.

I sorry that you think that Lord Edy! It is not surrounded by midplain, the height is much lower than that. The countryside around Carreg is certainly not completely flat though, it is pretty rugged.

There are areas where you can place farms, there is also quite of room for dairy farms which is actually the more common use of agriculture in those parts.

NAT,
Do you live in Wales or something?

Because since I joined SH-H, I've started to worry about the fact that people seem to know more about Wales and/or Britain as a hole, than me!
And I live in the Cambrian Mountains,
the very heart of Wales for hevngames sake!
And I'm a "Londonair"!
Scarey...

No, but I go to Wales every Summer. I usually stay near Cardigan on the coast.

Quoted from Warlord_Designs:

I don't have much of a story though

Quoted from Kester:

We are welcome for some "what ifs"

Well...
A castle very close to Carreg Cennin Castle, Dryslwyn Castle, was besieged by Edward I's forces

Quoted from C.A.D.W.- DINEFWR CASTLE & DRYSLWTN CASTLE guied book:

in the wake of Rhys ap Maredudd's revolt of 1287, there was a swift, well coordinated, and effective English reaction.

What if, Carreg Cennin Castle, was the fort in question...?

Erhm, first I don't think Carreg Cennin as we see it today was finished in 1287, and second, the castle was beseiged during the Owain Glyndwr uprising in 1403. And again during the war of the roses.

Dryslwyn or Cennin? Hey, that rhymes!
(ignore me, I have a powerfull sense-of-huhmer, I find everything funny)

Plus, before Carreg Cennin Castle, as we know it, there would have been annother fort there.
