Judge’s comments: The winner of the Crusader entries offers a classic invasion map based on an attacking siege. The sheer scale of the battle that this map offers was impressive and the strong story and comments really helped to elevate this scenario. The gathering of your troops, plus the addition of a puzzle or two, was welcomed by the judges and the siege of the King’s Palace is not to be treated as a straightforward affair. Throwing numbers at walls does not work: we had to think carefully about how best to approach this map right from the start. Some lovely design structures and eye candy (including the ships, tricky to model correctly) helped to establish the fictitious element we were looking for. Throw in a huge dose of fun and the result is this great scenario.
Lord Ap Hywell has really tried to offer something different and the efforts to address all of the criteria we were judging on was noted. The landscaping of the map was impressive with plenty to look at right across the canvas. A wonderful, fast-paced and epic map!
