Invading Mordor

Author File Description

File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Hard
This map represents some history from "The Silmarillion". The map is designed to be played as an attacker. I suggest the map to be played on normal. On hard or very hard the map is good to be played after the player has some experience with lower levels of difficulty.

In the map there are no trebuchets and siege towers to be build. I think it is more real and interesting to play sometimes without trebuchets. Using trebuchets it is too easy to destroy enemy buildings from long distance without any victims.

When defending, play on hard or very hard.

Enjoy!

talos_911 Hmm...
Another LotR map for stronghold...(not that i'm complaining :))
This one focuses on the dark lands of mordor. A refreshing change from the Horde of Helm's deep maps (*guilt alert, guilt alert*)...Let's see how it fares...

Playability : 3
Maybe an overuse of negative happiness for the defenders makes the game slightly less fun from the defenders point of view as the enemy plows through pretty much the black gates (which are supposed to be unbreakable)...the real fight comes only when the enemy reaches the gatehouse seperating the enemy and the keep...the melee which ensues is fun...but the siege still lacks the feeling of real castle siege and more importantly the siege of Mordor...which, i expected , to be depicted on a more epic scale...a worthy attempt at providing a challenge nonetheless...

Balance : 4
A well balanced map on the recommended difficulty...but only through use of melee units...the archer units are insignificant for the defenders...in fact the attackers have (due to negative happiness) better archers than the defenders !!

Creativity : 4
A nice map with a volcano and good looking castle and black gate...however the structures are not supplemented by the manpower which is mentioned in the book (silmallirion)...hence they fall easily and frankly...that kinda let me down...

Map Design : 3
Hmm...I have mixed feelings about his one...the first impression you get from this map is the author's attempt to genuinely recreate the feeling of the book...however as you scroll around you'll find hapahzard placement of rock features...(although surrounding mountains look really good) which really made me fell disappointed...
But still a good (first?) attempt.
One more thing i felt wrong was that the land of mordor was too...green...the land is described as being like hell (if i recall correctly)...so...
also, if the volcano had the foam effect put inside it instead of marsh, it would have given off better looking gas effect, IMHO.

Story/Instructions:5
good work here with a decent pre-mission storyline and a good readme (much like the one i include with my maps lol)...

Overall: a good attempt by the author...if a few changes were made in (perhaps) an update...it would significantly boost the quality of the map...

A little update is made to the map several days ago (18 March). I have reduced the number of the attacker's crossbowmen and I have add some more archers to the defender. Playing now as attacker is a little harder.
