This is my first map and, sheesh, this is harder than it looks. Don't be any easier on me because of that:) I want to see what everyone thinks and how I can improve, so I would really appreciate it if you would take the time to comment or review it. I hope you enjoy.
I plan to revise this and make it better, add terrain, give the attackers some siege money, balance it some more... Tell me what else you think would help.
*This should be played as attacker on easy, defense will be no challenge.
Playability (2/5): Not too fun. You pretty much charge the gate, charge the next gate, get chewed up and storm the keep. The exclusion of siege engines gives the player a choice of either massed archers or massed infantry.
Balance (2/5): There are way too many crossbowmen. Lowering the number of xbowmen and adding siege engines would increase the interest.
Creativity (3/5): Nothing new. The self-grown forest is creative for a first-map though.
Map Design (2/5): It's pretty rough around the edges. The elevation on the mini-map is visibly blocky, and the field below is somewhat monotonous.
Story (1/5): What story?
Improvements that could be made: Use the "equalize terrain" a lot more. Tilt your head and look at the map, and say "Is this smooth or rough? Does this look like a real castle? Does the terrain look real?" On the hills clusters of boulders would improve the . Also, the field's monotony can be cured by perhaps a river in the corner flowing into the sea and a few mid-sized boulders scattered around the field. The islands would look much better with some rocks on them. And a good story really adds to the fun.
