Firstly, i must say that I was very curious about this map. especially after I read the designer comment that this is his first map and a map based on the Movie helm's deep.
The reason was that, my first map was also a movie based helm's deep...so i was dying to try it out, but I couldn't because i was busy with my design contest map...
Well enough of blaberring. let's started with the review.
Playability : 4
This is a fun and fast paced map as an attacker, as you have two fronts to attack the castle from.
As a defender, the AI seems to be working very well which reflects the care the author has taken to make it fun. I especially liked the fact that the ladder men, actually run for tha wall as in the movie...Something i could not accomplish in my map. Well done.
A suggestion i wanted to make is to keep the melee units on aggressive (the ones behing the deepening wall) so that they attack as soon asthe wall is compromised.
Balance : 3
Although not unbalanced it is a little on the easy side as a defender as you have many archers...you can practically win without moving a single soldier...thats not much fun now is it.
As an attacker tha map really shines as you have to decde where to attack from and once you attack you have to commit all your forces in waves to win...its exciting and challenging.
Creativity : 4
the movie ,as we all know, does not trulky show the layout of the keep so the player obviously has to make up some of his own stuff...as I did, and although my map was fun (IMHO) it wasn't really that accurate. However after seeing the plans of the set, i find that this map has been made quite accurately as far as castle design goes...the back entrance and semi-rounded walls are presented as in the movie.
Map design : 4
As I said, the map is designed to recreate the movie HD and it does it well. but there are inconsistencies like a gate in the deepening wall...surely it is clear that there is no gate on it...but how can I deduct marks for authenticity towards the movie when the movie is not true to the book ? so a little creative licence ca be granted, and is infact necessary to recreate the feel and more importantly keep the map fun in SH. the tall diagonal wall doesn't look since the top part blends, but the bottom doesnt...a splatter of mid plain used judiciously and creatively could hide it well.
Story/Instructions : although I know the story, others may not so a few lines on the setup and what's going on would have helped increase the score...since there is nothing in the story, i reluctantly have to give it a 1 which bring s the score down unfortunately (add a story in the update man).
Overall : A fun map and a great first attempt. He will go far, mark my words !!!

The map was quite fun, but not a challange at all. Also the Rohhirim, were already at the fortress before the enemy launched their attack. This is a pity I think. Although I think you did great work with the ladderman running to the deeping wall and the AI almost working flawlessly except for the battering rams. But I think a 3 is very generous by now.. I refer to the balance.
Edit: Well in the attacking side it is overall balanced enough. But in defending it is way too easy! In easy mode you can do nothing and still keep 79 percent of all your troops. Make it more difficult next time
Helms Deep shouldn't be supressed by the fact that there are already many of these maps. Although the idea of recreating a movie/book is creative, the map didn't have any personal touches.
Map Design: 2
This was the most terrible thing. A lot of hills were ugly, the path the keep was ugly and the environment was not looking good. The diagonal high walls also didn't look that nice. Just place them on medium plane and the look will be way better.
You don't have any story at all, neither did you have instructions. Well try at least to write down a story next time. This shows the work and effort in your mapmaking.
This map could use a lot of improvement.
