Author File Description
Rhiannon
File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Normal
In the days of the ancient Celts there was a lake called Loe Bar. It is said the lake holds the Sword of Grian. Your quest is to obtain the Sword of Grian. It is a sword with many powers. Ledgend says the sword was made by the Celtic Deity of the Sun and Aveta Celtic Goddess of Healing Waters. Whoever recovers the sword from the clutches of Loe Bar Lake will be given the powers to conquer all their enemies. On the eve of the spring equinox the beautiful fairy “Caer” came to you in a dream and said,” My Lord, if you would be so kind as to give the Fairies of the Lake a Grand Fairy Feast I will tell you the secret to obtaining the Sword of the Grian. The land is full of resources, wolves, thieves, and bandits. Take this challenge and you will be richly rewarded.

Design: 4/5 of the map is meadowland with threes there are no hills, valleys or other varied landscaps, except the 1/5

Story: 4, since I like it

Balance, Playability and Creativity: 3, Required was a fear factor of +4. The game started with a given fear factor of +5, so I had to delete beautifications, to get my workers to work. I didn't find that good. Wolf attacks were in my opinion to strong.

Playability - 4 - An enjoyable mission to play, I found there was plenty to keep me occupied and a good range of both negative and positive events.

Balance - 4 - While I finished the mission the first attempt at hard it never felt really easy. A reasonably challenging mission.

Creativity - 3 - Nice map and good events but nothing stood out as being particularly creative or different.

Map Design - 4 - An attractive map with good water features and some nice touches like the stone path in the village. A bit more variety in the land would have made it better.

Story/Instructions - 3 - The story was reasonably well written but I didn't feel that it really matched with the mission nor did it give me a good indication of what would be occuring.

This was a very fun and exciting mission. There were challenges spaced evenly throughout it and those kept you alert. The map was great and had a hugh supply of wood. All in all, it was a very fun map to play.
peter2008 Loe Bar Lake is very good and it is different.
First it may look like many other eco scenarios. By the time you recognize that it offers an original course.
At the start, many hordes of wolves come in to your area from, everywhere. In some attack events, the wolves keep on harvesting away your poeple.
In a first attempt I felt overwhelmed by the bad events. Not of their numbers, actually, but of the fact that they all do occur. Above all, theft from granary countered my usual gameplay.
Also, there is a good "balance" between the demands and the necessities and between the goods you have to process for the requests and the goods you can trade for gold. The mission does not say, how many people you shall have. You will employ ever more, if "only" as water bearers. Nothing about complete your castle, however, some walls against bandits would be nice. At the market, only wood and pitch are tradable.
It may have been trickily intended by the author, that good things are demanded, but bad things are of great help boosting the productivity of the people. This avoids the last part of the mission becoming boring.
It is one of the few SH1 eco maps I played with fear factor -5 and game speed 90.
On very hard, I had 204 population, won in November 1492 with a score of 39.496.
