This is a fun siege! Look for an update, as I haven't finished the terrain on the western side of the map.
Please rate the scenario, and tell me what I can do to improve on it.
Thanks!
Fun, definitely fun. 'Hyre' is a pretty good siege map all in all. The author has scripted some bandit attacks in here as well, which can either add to the gameplay, or attack the invading forces. I'm not sure about this element, though credit is noted for attempting something different.
Balance: 3/5
On hard setting, per the download description page, I initially found this to be a bit tricky, though once i'd realised I had hot oil engineers at my disposal, things became easier. Overall I have to say that this was just a bit too easy though. This could be remedied by reducing the pitch ditches outside the castle walls, which decimate attacking forces. Not too much, but smaller, more random patches will add to the playability too as there will be more to do in order to defend the castle. Troops combinations are fine.
Creativity: 4/5
Whilst it works erratically, having the bandit attacks in there is a good idea and reminiscent of some of the works Talos has given us. Invasions would have been better, but i'm pleased to see something different has been attempted here. The general idea of the map is a sound one and has a strong theme to it.
Map Design: 3/5
The author states that, in the downloads description page, the terrain isn't finished. Personally i'd opt for a smaller map size as there is no real need here to develop terrain given the small size of the castle. The terrain does look good though, as does the modelling of the castle to form a small but well defended fortification.
Story/Instructions: 3/5
There is a small but well written story to accompany this map, on the screen prior to the game launching. Nice work, needs a bit more content?
IN SUMMARY
Quite a good map overall, some really good parts and some areas that need work (balance, landscape). That aside, it's a solid effort. Good work, keep it up!
