Difficulty: Hard
It was the Druids who said Galvadorn was cursed. Long ago the story went. Before Arthur and a thousand years before the Romans, a great Dragon, with a tail of smoke and flame tore a scar across the Heavens. Every creature in the land saw its path across the sky. In horror they watched, as the Dragon became a fireball. With the shrieking roar of hell the demon fell and crashed to Earth. The great death of the beast turned day into night and shattered the land, creating the valley called Desolation. Every scorched tree had been raised from its roots and brought low. Only one sacred Druid Oak stood. The survivors fled, Galvadorn was forever cursed. For even if life should one day return, a land so shattered could never be reunified. To this day no one Ruler has ever unified Galvadorn. Yet, why should you believe in such Pagan fantasy? You have never been one to give credence to stories. That is why you have boldly marched your army into the valley called Desolation. Sniper fire is reported. As you look at the hills surrounding your position, the strangest of thoughts occurs. As far as the eye can see, there are no trees in Galvadorn.

Author's Notes: The story is the tale of a meteor impact and how it would have been viewed....perhaps, by people 3,000 years ago. This map is designed as an attacking siege only and is best played on an easy or normal level of difficulty. Galvadorn is an incredibly long siege. There are several castles and other fortifications in the land. As the story states there is no one ruler, to achieve victory you will have to eliminate all enemy forces on the map. This is not an easy task as the enemy forces are as large as your own. Although certainly beatable this map will require time, patience and strategy. Good Luck!

Are you trying to play as the attacker or the defender? Map will not play if you run it as a defensive siege. As I stated above this is an attacking siege only. You will get an instantaneous victory notice like you described if you try to defend Galvadorn. Let me know.
Map Design4.0
Played as an attacking siege only, per the author's clear and specific instructions.

Playability: 5/5

This is an essential download! Absolutely epic in scale and design. What we have here is not just a standard siege on the keep, but a warren of passages to oversome as well, which in turn are defended with a combination of troops. It seems that wherever you are in this map, you come under fire. It's definitely a map to sit back with and plan, especially playing on hard setting...

Balance: 5/5

...which initially I found to be just too hard. Yet this is a perfect example of a classic tactical siege map and perseverence will pay dividends. The odds are stacked against you from the very start. The castle is very well defended and as your weakened, bedraggled troops make it to the gatehouse, multiple ballista fire upon you and pitch ditches light all around. Tough, very tough at times. I can't help but like this map and feel strongly that it deserves a 5 score, if only for being something which isn't play-and-throw-away.

Creativity: 5/5

This is a great idea, and whilst it has been done before (what hasn't?), the execution of the idea... long haul to the keep, then take that with whatever's left... is done so well. Galvadorn really is a gem of a map IMO. Dificult to describe, it's something that just has to be played to experience.

Map Design: 4/5

In terms of the theory of the map design, it's perfect. Long, winding passages, as well as equally long treks on the low and mid (?) plain lead you across all four corners of the map as you attempt to wipe out all that you see. The terrain is very well modelled, certainly functional, and the castle takes on a foreboding appearance. Not quite a perfect 5 score (i'd personally like to see a bit more development of the terrain, and yes i'm being nit-picky) but not far off.

Story/Instructions: 4/5

UnikUnok's previous works largely centred around historical castle reconstructions. This map shows that he has an imagination too, with a splendid story and instructions to compliment the download. Well written, clear to understand and absorbing... just what the story should be.

I'd hate to see this map overlooked in the downloads section as it's a belter! Without a doubt a recommended download, a real challenge and a tough nut to crack.

This is an excellent example of how to create an epic siege map.

This is not a slash and burn assault. You have to plan your attack, allocate your resources wisely and retreat quickly if you guessed wrong.

This map was an inspiration to me, and sets a standard I feel that more map builders should aspire to.

Just my humble opinion...
