Playability: 3/5
The Siege of London is an interesting map. Linked to a previous work by the author, it follows on quite well and what we have here is a large scale battle. As an attacker, which seems to be the way the map is to be played, you have your work cut out. Getting into the castle is relatively easy, but the inner bailey is extremely well protected on one side in particular. Fight your way past this and you have a good chance of succeeding. I enjoyed playing the map and the design threw up some posing questions on how best to approach the siege. One small flaw in the design means that you could throw some archers on one side of the wall and continuously fire at the Lord, eventually winning the game. This takes away some of the fun of playing, and could be remedied by maybe moving some crossbowmen on top of the keep. There were three or four already there, but something like 10-12 may make a subtle but marked improvement.
Balance: 4/5
Not a bad effort at all here. From hard to very hard setting it becomes a little tough, but the potential with this map is that it could easily be played on a number of settings for different skill levels. I also tried to defend on very hard and whilst not part of the design, it's certainly worth a go for a bit of fun. The inner bailey is well covered, as mentioned before, and there are pitch ditches that, if ignited, could well lead to the whole castle erupting into flames. Some of the archers' placement were redundant, and weren't involved in the game. A nod to a credible effort.
Creativity: 3/5
In theory, I like the idea. I can see what the author is attempting to portray and the theme comes across well. The map needs a little bit more work done to it IMO to allow the player to immerse themselves in the battle, by way of polishing the design and expanding on the story. Again, a pleasing effort though.
Map Design: 3/5
To look at, the map is quite good in some areas. The castle and the various internal sections adds a nice feel and the terrain is okay, though needs some more time spent modelling. As a stand-alone castle, it's okay. What I haven't deducted from the score is the unreal resemblance to the Tower of London. This is only a personal opinion, thus not affecting the score here, but I relish seeing reconstructions of historical castles that are faithful to plans and pictures. Unfortunately this doesn't really look like the real thing, which is a real shame. Maybe something to bear in mind in the future?
Story/Instructions: 3/5
Not too much by way of a story in the description downloads page, but open up the map and the author has attempted to give a story and some hints within the game itself. Not too badly done either, and again it reflects the author's ideas. Could do with a little polishing of the grammar.
IN SUMMARY
Not bad at all. It's generally fine to play, can be tricky to beat and looks quite good. A credible effort in each area of design. Keep up the good work! |

This is one of the biggest siege maps I've ever seen. The sheer scale of it would make you coming back to it.
Playability - 5
This map has some really cool gameplay as defender. Bringing the partying crossbowmen to the front and at the same time making sure the front does not fall before they make it. Also, this is one of the few siege maps that uses laddermen effectively.
Balance - 3
I found that it is too easy as defender since when the crossbowmen arrive, the attackers don't stand a chance.
Creativity - 5
The map is very well made with a realistic sort of town and representation of medieval London. I just loved it. I spent my first few seconds chaecking out the map instead of playing (and consequently lost !)
Map Design - 4
Very well made, but requires a little more polish. Its a 4.5 really but...
Anyway, the map design is different from most other sieges. The castle nearly covers the entire map !!
Story/Instructions - 4
A decent story continuing the author's other map's story. good idea.
I recommend this map to the serious as well as casual player.
Good work !
