This is my second map for Stronghold that I have created specifically for Stronghold Heaven (to some extempt). It is a siege set by the beach.

Suggested Playing Level - Very Hard
Suggested Playing Side - Defense
Suggested Playing Mind - Drunk :P

Map Design4.0
Death by the Beach is a good attempt at a siege map. Designed to be attacked or defended it functions well. However some choices by the author effect the amount of challenge this map has to offer.

Playability 4/5 Game play is smooth and the AI attacks well. Although able to break through the castles outer defenses, the large army of swordsmen and pikemen inside the castle quickly stopped the AI’s assault. Death by the beach plays well, however some balance issues cause it to be somewhat easy to beat. I defeated this attacking and defending on my first attempts. Playing on a difficulty level of very hard, my losses were heavy at 52% and 61% respectively.

Balance 3/5 Probably the first time I have ever seen this but the defending troops are a little unbalanced in favor of armored troops. The defending army is almost large enough to take on the attacking army in a stand up fight! This is not too bad as lots of armored troops on both sides can lead to some big battles. Combined with the excessive and effectively placed pitch ditches this map is too easy as the defender. The attacking force has way too much in the war chest and a generous number of engineers that means you can quickly pound the castle into rubble. Overall Death by the Beach is a much better attacking siege IMO.

Creativity 3/5 the castle has an interesting gatehouse design. I liked the moat work and defenses incorporated into what is by far the strongest point of the fortress. This part of the castle gives the most trouble to the attacker and after it is destroyed the rest of the castle’s defense will quickly fall to pieces. The thick outer walls of the castle have no partitions. If the attacker chooses to get atop them, all of the defending ballistic units can be quickly dispatched.

Map Design 4/5 Some good terrain modeling. Not much beach but what’s there is well modeled. The whole map has had a decent amount of time invested into it. Other than the design problems of the castle mentioned in creativity, the author should be commended for giving this map a pleasing appearance.

Story/Instructions 3/5 a short rhyming story on the launch page and some playing notes on the download description page. An average effort in this category, the amount of effort I usually see in the siege downloads.

In Short- Not a bad attacking siege but a little to easy to defeat. Lord Hexagh’s work is definitely improving. With some more practice he will turn out some quality maps.
Map Design3.0
This is a fun liitle siege, best in defence and well balnced considering as the walls are so huge. The keep howver shoudl be less defended as the pitch kills so many. Also having 30 pikemen and 20 sworsdmen cna hold off a lot of men. The map plays well and the AI attck the castle very well. Not a particulary cretaive map but simply and well designed although maybe too crampt. Another thing is that the castle is built up against the side of the map which slightly limits the castle design. The map is small and the map design is quite ordinary. Outside the walls it is mainly forest and on oen side of the wall is the sea/beach and the other hi-plain. storyline not great but enough to merit a 3. So overall this is a funa nd playable map - good use of catupults make the map much better, so good work - I enjoyed this.
