This seige is my second attempt at creating one for upload, my first being quite some time ago and that castle couldnt be taken so it couldnt really be played as it was impossible ( number 64 ).
I dont get much time to create, only get time to play seiges, but have made some time, hope you enjoy playing this one.
This is a quite strong castle that guards a land of plenty, which of course you want :o).....but can you defeat the defenders and take the castle ?
This is an enormous siege map, with the design covering just about every part of the playing area. You have to work around the map killing all you see, basically. There are archers and crossbowmen in areas of the map that will replace those killed on some of the walls, therefore gaining any sort of foothold will be difficult. In addition to this, the defending troops have a huge +ve popularity bonus making them that much harder to beat. I've not managed to win at this map yet (see comments below re balance) but what I have played so far is very good... in some areas...
I'd go so far as to say that on normal hard difficulty, the level indicated by the author, that this is nigh on impossible. Either i'm a very, very bad player or you are simply overwhelmed by the defending troops. I've tried on easy setting and had much more success but still unable to beat it. There are way too many units here to kill, and that's even before you get to the keep. Really needs addressing, which is a real shame as the remainder of the map is quality stuff.
Nothing outstanding in terms of how the map plays, but from a design point of view this is a bit of an eye opener. With a huge layout to look at there's some really great points here. Stockpiles are full to the brim with goods... wheat, hops, iron... impressive to look at. Some neat eye candy items are here too and the plan looks imposing and impressive.
Map Design: 4/5
Leading on from above, really. The terrain is modelled well, although the main body of the castle where the keep is looks a little plain. The score here goes for the many elements of the design that do look good.
A decent enough story is here to introduce you to the map. It's well written and fits in nicely with the design.
Aside from the balance issue, this is generally a good map. If balance was addressed, this would also make the map more playable and a pleasurable experience.
