In the beggining of the 5th century, the Western Roman Empire was falling apart with constant raids of barbaric hordes. Britain was pagued by the Picts and Scots, Irish and the Saxon. In 408, with the withdrawal of the last roman legion, the britons rebelled, expelled the roman officials and took the defense matters at theirs own hands. Ceint (Kent) was the first celtic kingdom to fall under roman domain, and was the last to regain authonomy, after almost 4 centuries of roman occupation. In 425AD it was reborn as a celtic kingdom, under the rule of Gwyrangon. In 445 Vortigern comes to power as High King of the Britons, and in 447AD hires saxon mercenaries as foederatii to defende the east coast from further saxon attacks. In 450AD he concedes lands in Ceint for Hengist in an event known as Adventus Saxonum. In 453AD the saxons led by Hengist and Octha rebels against their british overlords and wreak havoc in the eastern Britain, conquering the kingdom of Ceint. Your objective is to avoid this, there for you are to consolidate your position, and assemble a large army to withstand the saxon revolt and expel them from your kingdom, re-writing history.
2nd Update, now it looks a bit more like a challenge.

Playability: 3/5
Good map, this. You start off with the option to place your keep, and steadily build up your castle (oneof the win criteria is to complete the castle) and economy. There are some economic goals to achieve as well as an invasion to fend off towards the end, unless you are able to beat the economic requirements first.
Playability was generally good throughout. It would score higher if there were a few more events, just something a little bit more to keep you on your toes. That said, it's a fairly relaxing invasion map, concentrating more on economic goals and castle-building.
Balance: 4/5
Quite good, the new revised version spices things up a bit more. The win criteria isn't impossible, certainly achievable and some early wolf attacks can cause small mayhem if left unchecked. Not too many eco goals to consider, and as above, you get to build up a fortification too.
Creativity: 4/5
I liked this map for what it is. It's always nice to see a submission that concentrates on wooden palisading and reduced weapons manufacture, which naturally fits in perfectly with the story and theme the author is trying to achieve. Stronghold works best for me when defences are rudimentary, and i'm quite taken by the concept of a setting deep in the middle of the Dark Ages.
Map Design: 4/5
Generally speaking, the terrain is well modelled. Improvements would really be needed in smoothing of terrain and making the landscape look a little bit more 'worked'. However, the map scores highly as there are more than one possible locations for your keep. The natural high ground bordered by the river is obviously first choice, but it's nice to have that choice of keep placement. The layout is slightly unusual, which again I like the look of.
Story/Instructions: 5/5
A great story introduces this map, setting the scene perfectly and providing a degree of education with the content. It reads very well and summarises the period in such a way as to appeal to the reader.
IN SUMMARY
A good map, with some great elements of design. A quality story too. Spicing up events would make this an essential download. As it is, I liked it and would still recommend it, especially for those that prefer wood to stone! Nice work! |

An odd bug happens when I play this map-none of the objectives will allow themselves to be ticked! o_0
For example: You need (I think) 43 Maces on normal. I collected about 60 and it still wouldn't tick it. The same happens for all of the objectives. I'm really confused! |
