Miskolc-Diosgyor
For years now, your anger against Prince Drozsa (the Wolf) has boiled and smoldered. He deceived the King, had your father exiled and stole your lands. Years have passed and fate would have it that you and the Crown Prince Steven have become friends. Upon the death of his father, his majesty King Steven has now given you authority to take back your ancestral home. Prince Drozsa has fortified the castle and is expecting trouble. As you muster your forces, spies warn you of pitch ditches and other snares that have been laid in your path. As a token of his friendship and support, His Majesty has given you a mighty siege tower to aid in your quest, as it will play a vital role in capturing the castle.

Once you have taken the castle, you have a short time to turn a profit (30 game years). His majesty has made a large investment in you and wishes you to return the favor to him by opening the wine and iron trading route through this region again. Drozsa will not sit by idly and let this happen. You must be prepared for his counter attack and constant efforts to disrupt the trade route.

Victory Requirements:

5000 Gold
100 Hops
100 Fruit
50 Ale
50 Iron
30 game year time limit

*** Player Notes***
This is a cede-castle scenario. As the blue player you must attack and capture the castle leaving no one alive. Once you kill all of the Wolf’s troops, the caslte will be transferred to your control. I FORE WARN YOU that this may be a tough siege for some players, yet not so tough for others. Balance is hard to achieve in this area based on player ability and experience. Study the terrain and defenses of the castle. I urge you to deploy and make the maximum use of your forces and you can take the castle with minimal losses. If you attack the castle piece mail, you will have a bad day. Watch out for the occasional cavalry charge targeting your engineers. The engineers you start the game with are all that you will have during the scenario.

PLEASE NOTE - The story above is fantasy and not based on any historical fact, only the castle is historic. This scenario was made to re-create Miskolc Diosgyor and feature it as a “Castle of the Week”. The castle design is as accurate as I could make it based on diagrams and photos.

My goal is for you to have as much fun playing the scenario as I had creating it. As always, I welcome constructive criticism and feed back from my maps. If you get frustrated with the scenario and think its too hard, send me a note and I will be more than happy to give you a hint or two (ron@trinityhsg.com).

Superb castle work - this is a stunning castle but difficult to siege. It is a bit of a hassle! I am not a very good attacker so playing on easy was y only route into the castle. One thing that was irritatingwas the tower in the top left. My men (with little health) had to trail over to it and start a mini siege of the tower - no need for it. Once you areinside the castle things are not much better. Crikey - this is harder than Chepstow! I was thinking of putting it another point down in playability or balance but that would make it a 4.6. And this map is so much better than that - stunning castle work, really realistic with huge walls and towers. I would love to see how Duke of York would make a map like Helms Deep or Minis Tirth - it would be amazing. The economic side of the map is hard - becasue of the castle being in sch a good position on this great lake it is hard to get enough food in. The first time I got into the castle I ran out of food and money and my popularity plumetted never to return. Second time round slightly imroved but I am simply not good enough at invasions to run that castle efficiently. Creativity a defiant five - the towers, the walls, the lake all stunning. The consistent quality of Duke of Yorks map design is breathtaking. For story and instructions a quite long piece - love the pictues. It is always good to have the mini map there for you to take a sneak preview of the map. Overall great map design, espeialy of the castle but too hard fo me and also too long - 30 years is pretty long. I also thnk it is the reason why you do not get as many reviews as you deserve. But this is a fabulous map to play on! Looking forward to more maps in the future - I would love if you would try a defensive siege - my favourite. With the quality map design you can produce they could be unbelievable.
