Map name : "Helm's Deep Redux"
Version : 2.2
Type : Siege
Game : Stronghold
Size : 400x400
Recommended Side of Play : Defender (only)
Map Difficulty : Hard (Balanced in v1.2)
Recommended Difficulty of Play : Easy or Normal ( Hard for Veterans )
NOTE : DON'T play on very hard, as it leads to Sprite overload and erratic AI behaviour.
This is my second Helm's Deep map. My first one was made while I was but a noob in the design community and wanted to play a good Helm's Deep map based on the movie, since I could'nt find any, I just made one myself. It made me learn a lot about the Stronghold editor and since then I have learned a lot more, and set out to make a more accurate representation of the Helms Deep map.
This map took a long time to make, primarily since I wanted to recreate the feel of the movie as accurately as humanly possible. Amongst the variety of Helm's Deep maps availble, very few can do that. When the AI finally worked one day, I almost cried with happiness! It attacks the wall in a surprisingily Orc-like way and is a very fun battle through and through.
To make the AI work, I had to pre-place certain enemy forces on the map, and they blend very well with the AI army. I also had to do quite a bit of scripting to achieve the feel of the siege of Helm's Deep.
As a result of all that work, Crossbowmen flank the archers on your walls from nearby cliffs, and macemen hide behind siege towers while destroying your walls!
A little back of the envelope calculation shows that the number of enemy units you will encounter throughout the course of a normal level game give or take a few hundred:
As you can see, it is a very intense map.
Although, the structure is very accurate, it is the fun factor that I have concentrated upon, and I hope it appeals to Non-Tolkien enthusiasts as well.
A big achievement for me was the addition of the Rohan Cavalry (Rohirrim) which charge out to help defend the deep after 15 game months (changed to 17 months in v2.1).
NOTE : Do not select the Cavalry before 17 months, or they might fail to charge out automatically, or worse, not come at all!
There are a few people who I would like to thank. Their names and contribution is mentioned in the credits.txt file in the zip. Thanks Guys!
Keep in mind that This is a Tough Map! It was made to recreate the ultimate challenge, that was Helm's Deep and requires good use of all your troops. For the faint-hearted, tips to beat this map are also included in Tips.txt within the zip file.
v1.1 Changes :
-New Pig Mid-Game Message.
-Harder Last Wave.
-Earlier Last Wave.
v1.2 Changes :
-Balance Issues addressed.
-You'll see a bit more of the pig, playing the part of the Orc Commander to perfection ;).
v2.0 Changes :
-Inner side of outer wall and Outer side of inner wall made indestructable. Vastly improves AI efficiency.
-Tougher Last Wave.
v2.1 Changes :
-Took care of a loophole which allows you to trick the AI... not anymore.
-Rohirrim now arrive after 17 months.
-Added tips.txt to zip file, help out beginners.
v2.2 Changes :
-New placement of Rohirrim, they arrive at same time though.
-Harder Last wave consisting of 50 swordsmen, 100 Pikemen and 300 Macemen !
Now, off to the fun part!

With an army like this, the lord would consider committing suicide!
No really, that's by far the most accurate, the most violent, the most entertaining, the most coherent, the most chaotic, the most beautiful, the most realistic, the most...(i think you get it) Helm's Deep map ever made (if not Stronghold map!)
Unique, challenging, good map even for those not a fan of seiges (such as myself).
What can I say....a great map. The "time until the last battle" is a bit odd...you just gotta kill everything on the screen after a certain point (even though it says you have forever left). Otherwise, very complex, beautiful set up, true to the story as you can get, pretty challenging too. I recommend to all. Well done!
An amazing map, I could play it over and over and never get tired! It brings out the true Helms deep siege. I moslt like how the horsesmen are procisely timed to come at end( if you move them). It would be better though if somehow you could have added the heros, but overal its the best Helms deep map ive played yet.
It's one of the greatest maps. Doing this had to be a hard work so I admire You. I gave 4 to balance because there are still too little amount of archers. Protecting the long wall was useless, so I focused on the stronghold. It was really easy until those swordsmen showed out and destroyed the back gate, though I sent almost all archers and some pikemen to the back gate. Maybe it was because my 8 video card. The map and the story imitations from the movie were perfect.

This is a brilliant map of the Famous Lord of the Rings Helms Deep
When I've downloaded this and play it,I couldnt stop playing it!Its very great and I had lots of fun playing it!But I hope the Rohirrim cavalry will be much more though because they having a hard time killing the invading army in Normal and Hard.
firsti wana excuse my preview messsage witch i wrote in a hurry so it became very strange (and im from sweden). the map and fight is fantastik. but it would be more like the mocie if the enemie had ladderman instead of siege towers. it would also be more like the movie if they only had pikemans, thousands of pikemans (they look more like uruk-hais than macemans) and only hundreds of x-bowman (in the movie some uruk-hais uses x-bows and not ordinary bows) and increase the amount of archers on the wall and make rohirrim bigger (if u do all theese changes u dont have a chance if u dont increase the army and defence). iy would be fun if u made theese changes. but the scenario is still very good, a bit to easy though. well, thumbs up for the siege map!
I only want to say that this map is the best map that I have ever played and I also think that this map is best on srtonghold heaven.
It's better than most maps I've ever seen and looks amazingly similar to the Warcraft 3 one.
The map wants you to play it over and over and over, always tempting you with wanting to annihalate the enemy force.
The sheer size of the enemy force itself is amazing, and it overruns you from the start.
But of course a map couldn't be without a horrible enemy AI.
In all my experiences they just ran around the fronts of the walls getting killed.
Map Design: 5
This is a Great map. Incredible care was taken to create it. Plus I'm a Lord of the Rings fan!
Playability 5/5 Great just Great! I hope you choose to make a Minas Tirith map.
Balance is perfect. 5/5 Took me several tries to beat it. And it was so fullfilling when I did.
Creativity 4/5 The only reason this isn't a 5 is that you didn't actually come up with the Helm's Deep design. The movies did. Great use of scripting and timing the attacks of the enemy.
Map Design 4/5 Very good job of recreating the Helm's Deep from the movie, but in my opinion, Warlord Designs did a slightly better job. Also, I wish there was some way to acctually use ladders like in the movie. I know it isn't your fault. Laddermen are way way too weak. Hopefully Stronghold 2 will fix this problem.
Story 5/5 It's Lord of the Rings, that means it is good.
If you people like Lord of the Rings maps check out my Minas Tirith map, Gondor Part 2: Minas Tirith.
