The impregnable fortress v1.1

Author File Description

File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Impossible
Minimap:
“I’ve had a vision,” said Charles Seer, the Royal Mystic. “There lies an impregnable fortress to the north of our dwellings, residing on a hilltop. It has been standing for three centuries, but has never fallen into enemy hands once.”
“Are you sure?” asked Lord Lancelot, though he never doubted the words of Seer. Seer had been living for as long as anyone could remember, and was the wisest prophet in the Kingdom.
Seer’s wizened old face crumpled up, as if in concentration. “It is currently being held by Lord Lupus, the most feared lord in the region. Rumour has it that his great-grandfather ordered the construction of the fortress with no regard for expense, not even that of human lives. Many innocent people died while building the stronghold, for they were denied respite. Their skeletons were buried under the castle walls, and those who attempted to siege the castle died there, too.”
“Then I shall lay siege to this stronghold. I shall take it for myself.”
“No, milord, you must not do that. Your attempts will be in vain, and at the cost of a great many lives,” said Seer.
“Was that in your vision too?” asked Lancelot, a tinge of irritation creeping into his voice. For Lancelot was young, bold and proud, and hated to be told that something was impossible.
“No, milord, but…”
“Then let nothing more be said on the issue. We shall attack this so-called impregnable fortress.”

*I've updated the map to make it much more impregnable than before. Do please post a comment on whether you found this castle difficult or not. This is my first seige that map, so I hope to receive suggestions on how to improve it. Thanks!*

It was a very good map, I really enjoyed playing, and yes it would be almost impossible if you just attacked it by the sides, but all you have to do is attack the king with hundreds of archers and crossbowmen. I didn't relize this until my second atempt at the map. One way you could get rid of this weakness would be to move the keep back a ways, or put more archers on the keep to defend. All and All, it was a very fun and playable map. Good Job.

Liked the sound of this one! An impregnable fortress, eh? I'll have a go at that!

I did play this time and time again (hence the 4 for playability!) and always started with using trebochets to get rid of the two ballistas first.

Then I could approach and pick off all the archers/crossbow men with mine, because I seemed to be able to get close enough to hit them without them attacking me.

Then I'd send in a few tunnelers and pike men to smash down those walls and try to get to the last couple of archers on the back wall and the towers I couldn't hit.

I always got killed.

I finally discovered the fatal flaw! I thought the object was to kill the lord AND all the troops. So I kept trying to kill the troops first. It was only when my archers automatically fired at your lord that they killed him and I won.

I realised that all I had to do was smash up the first ballista with trebochet and then fire at your lord with my archers till he died. Game over! This is why I gave you 1 for design, because although it looks impressive at first, the keep is placed in an extremely vulnerable place.

It would be possible to win this map with only 3 engineers and an archer!

Hopefully we'll get a revised version soon, but 10/10 for effort!

Twisted Disco.
