Playability: 4/5
This map follows similar submissions from ReggieREAL in that you have a very ornate and eye-catching castle to defend against. Whilst it may follow the same route as his other maps, I really enjoyed playing through this as there was always an element of not knowing what to expect next. The troops you start the game with are insufficient to hold off against the very large invasions and a stocked armoury is a blessing. As a result of this approach, there is some micro-management to be done as well as the military aspect. Interesting win conditions fit in well with the story.
Balance: 4/5
The map provides a good challenge and can be annoyingly difficult at times. With lots to do and consider, the interest factor comes into play here. It could have been a 5.0 score but the intricate design of the castle confuses the AI and the attacking forces sometimes don't know what to do. You can use this to your advantage. When the AI does work, it's a daunting sight to see the mass armies coming to storm the castle. Good, nonetheless.
Creativity: 4/5
I've played a number of ReggieREAL's maps now and in terms of map design, and use of the wall effects and heights, the creativity in the design is clearly evident to see. The author has a distinct style that brings something different to the game. I liked the two enemy lords held captive within the grounds of your castle, a nice touch. Again, impressive.
Map Design: 5/5
There's no way that the fortification looks or resembles a castle in the traditional sense of the word. But that is another of the author's trademark designs, and the 'castle' takes on a surreal appearance. I love these designs, and they are very much underestimated in my opinion. I'd recommend anybody to take a look at any of the author's map submissions to the site and gain inspiration from these bizarre yet perfectly modelled castles.
One other aspect I love about the author's maps is the use of terrain. Again, it's different, but there always seems to be something going on, something to look at, something worth investigating. Always well modelled, and fully deserving a 5.0 score.
Story/Instructions: 4/5
The story may be on the small side, but it's a good idea, with a strong theme that mixes well with the way the game plays, and the look of the map itself. Maybe more content, and a bit more style, and again this would push for a 5.0 score.
IN SUMMARY
This is another good, solid map from ReggieREAL, and again whilst it's a similar style to his other maps it's a good scenario. Could do with a little more polishing in the balance area. The castle designs are sadly overlooked in the downloads area, which is a shame. Overall, a good map, a wonderful design and always worth a download. |

Thanks for your inspiring and kind words Sulis, I love making these maps and even more I love to see people enjoying them even more, balance is always the hard part in making these maps, think that FireFly Studios should make the AI more active by sending the troops in one big wave instead of in groups of tens or twenties, its really not the map makers fault if the attacking armies stand there at the sign post or don’t do any things, it could be very frustrating at time when you make a nice map and put lots of time and hard work into them and the game play goes down the drain because the attacking army will not fight. Thanks You for playing my maps and you can bet that there will be more to come, I also like to take the time and play the other guys makes too, and I like what I see in those maps as well, keep up the good work everyone. |

well then, this is the first review I've done, and I must say im impressed. It took awhile to figure out how to beat it, but i managed.
i enjoyed the look of the castle, very unnatural, but there were quite a few weaknesses in it, which the computer could have taken advantage of.
sadly, with all the massive amounts of units, the game ran kinda slow, but it was worth it, i still managed to get through the game.
great map, good effort, and thx! |
