The Saga Continues...

Endelin is so close to Celvenport now that he can see smoke in the distance. Whether it be the city burning or the blacksmiths and iron mines, he cannot tell. The barbarians have closed in on him again, so he decides to take refuge. A small castle that is under construction has been found on the coastline. It is small and easy to defend, as it is high on the cliff. But Endelin's once great army he had raised at the King's facility is now dwindled to but 20 men. Once Endelin has settled in, a scout arrives with new of what happened at Enthryl, the king's city. The attack was driven off, but the city was badly damaged and assasins had managed to slip by the defenses and kill the king. All the surviving warriors of the bloody battle now march to Celvenport, free of their service to the king. Now they march to Celvenport to provide what aid they can. Whatever remains of the city is what they will defend, for many allies from the south and enemies from the East now march their. All will take part in the greatest battle this world has ever seen. Endelin now is the undisputed king, but he has not been crowned and he does not want kingship until the war with the Barbarians is over and the west reclaimed. Drawing the sword of his grandfather for the first time in many years from it's sheath, he found the it was extremely light and the blade was still as sharp as it was the day it was wrought. Endelin returned the sword to it's sheath, fearing the power it symbolized. Narchal... would kill another day, and the day is looked forward to by those who wait for the crowning of the true king. Endelin has brushed with death many times, but now things are more desperate than ever...

This is a good economic/invasion scenario - just the kind that I enjoy. "The Alderland Saga Ch 5" gives you a chance to think and plan out your steps but you really have to be on your toes and use your time wisely because the invasions, when they come, are overwhelming if you are not careful.

The author suggests playing on Hard or Very Hard. I played on Hard and managed to win on my first attempt but it was close on several occasions. On Very Hard I was wiped out on my first attempt but victorious on my second with only 20% troop losses.

Zerotide has set up a good, fun, map all around only it would be better if it were balanced to be played on Normal so that the more experienced players could still select a harder setting for more challenge. I have gone back and forth on giving the Balance score 3 or 4.

The story is also very good. Well written and creative. I appreciated the descriptive phrases that helped paint a mental picture of the setting. On top of this the map (graphic) on the download description page adds a touch of realism. A minimap would also be good to include.

The "unfinished" castle is not so unusual but lots of eyecandy and fancy fortifications would have been out of place in a map like this. The map itself makes good use of various landscape elements. The water and rocky beach areas are well done. The distribution of iron ore and quarry stone seem unnatural – a little more work is needed here to blend these into the geology of the map.

The actual theme of the scenario is fairly standard. Beginning with a partially completed castle, maintain your economy while completing the fortifications and defending against multiple invasions.

Zerotide - I always enjoy your maps, thanks for this one.

Zerotide, this map was very creative, but it just needed that final touch, to make it extremly succesful, the map deesign it self did not look realistic at all the beach was very plain and it did not catch my eye that much, the ruins could of used some work and there is always a very anoying msg "The enemy has a siege tower at our wall!" augh! I had to take it out after 4 times it was said, rebuilding the castle was fun hence the 3 and the story line was very well written hence the 4 for story. Once again you need to work on designing the map and i feel Bismuth is being a bit too kind for what the map really stands to be. Ive been following the saga and well there have been some really good map and some floopy ones. Im afraid i would have to put this one in the floopy side of the scale because it was missing an element for better game play, seems things are slightly plain. The economy basis is very good and enjoyable. Once again i apologise if i am being slightly harsh, but is just my point of view and as gilb said a 3 for a map is outstanding. Feel free to coment on my saga " Nasarith" which should be out soon. Once again good map but could be better.
