Romris Island is on the edge of two kingdoms, Herrick Uthensvar to the east, and Roydin to the west. Your allegiance is with Herrick Uthensvar. Your king has been fighting a war in another country, far to the south, for several years. That battle is nearly over, and though it looks like he will return to Herrick Uthensvar victorious, his troops and supplies are depleted. Now rumors have reached him that Roydin is readying itself to invade. The king has commissioned you to return to the Island of Romris and develop its resources for war. The fortifications will need to be completed in the event Roydin attacks there first, rather than the mainland of Herrick Uthensvar. When the king returns to his homeland, he will expect stockpiles of arms and food, and a sufficient population to join him in battle. Any settlers who join you on the Island will surely realize the precarious position in which they find themselves, and will need the comforts of both the Church and the tavern. |

Hi Kester,
on the whole a capital economic map. I really had a lot of fun playing it and tons to do. Just needed two tries at hard, but nevertheless thrilly until the last minutes' break because of the multiple goals to fulfill. Time limit and all disturbung events, like fires, plagues or bandits are well-timed and require a quick and effective reaction. The basic problem at the beginning will be a well-balanced and well-working supply of food. For that you have to interfere regulating several times to achieve an increasing popularity ( as fast as you can), in steppin' up ale consumption and in satisfying all religious requirements. The demanded production of weapons is slowly running up, but will constantly improve by extending this product line, so that you can master the demanded goals of bows and swords just in time. As for the rest it's floatingly to play, sensitively balanced, so that you'll get a sense of well-being after a short time. The island itself with hills and flat areas is formed like an ink blot with a characteristic originality. There's plenty of wood and you are well advised to create enough woodcutters from the scratch to get enough wood for your future building plans or the safe enclosure of the keep. Iron production should be systematically enforced, too, because of the long distance transports.
You permanently have to control all production branches to reach a successful end of this mission. All in all a beautiful pretentious eco-map with a special charme, that you should play. Maybe a little bit hard, but along with the right strategy a good one to handle. Story and gameplay are conformable, the objectives are quite clear.
A great job, kester!
Best regards

The big points of "Romris Island" are the landscape and the combination of requests, for me.
The character of the landscape is one of contrast and harmony. Fjords cut sharply into the land. Green lowlands delight the eye. Plains and soft hilly lines alternate. Enjoyed the modelling of the small "fingers" leading out to the sea. There is some space for hovels and gallows there.
Gameplay was challenging in both the varied number of targets and theier combination. It's much about food here. Everybody may start with apple orchards to fill the granary quickly for extra rations. When the market is opened, however, one learns that a unique choice of goods is tradable only. You cannot sell apples or bread, but the "raw materials" wheat and flower. By the time, I had many wheat farms running. Later, I had to changed over from apples to cheese. Not least, you can only buy ale. It's a considerable investment starting the ale chain (immediately rewarding though).
This ways, I had unfamiliar things to do and felt entertained. Requests of gold and population are rather low. As is the number of events. Both features make the map feel friendly.
Dropped in, played the mission on very hard quite at ease and made it well with a slightly higher number of people. |
