Caldera de los Peones, the Cauldron of the peasants. A canyon formed from the shell of an ancient volcano. Long you have eyed these lands to the south of your father’s county. But the road to good fortune takes a different path for second sons. After years of loyal military service to the King, you have been granted this territory to mould into your own stronghold. The resources are plenty, but far flung from the stockpile. The only foes you now face are four-legged. Beat you swords into plowshares and turn your thoughts from battles to bread.
This is the first map I've submitted in months. As always, your comments are welcomed.
The story in the description page intrigued me and I decided to download and play this freebuild. Well written and clear. Short, but enough to give a background for the map and a motivation to succeed. About 110 words. Story – 3
Pirate Roberts has created an interesting map with semicircular terraces forming the “shell of an ancient volcano.” Because of the terrace cliffs, access to different levels is limited and this forms one of the challenges of the game – food and resource production sites tend to be quite a hike from the keep. Good use has been made of map editor tools to shape the land. Trees, rocks, plants, and water features etc. are also well distributed to good effect.
Many structures and fortifications are already in place. There are bridges made from walls, gatehouses and towers. I expected to find that these would be a barrier to knights but was pleased to see that Pirate Roberts included a portion of land in the middle of every critical bridge so that knights have access to all parts of the map. Map – 4, Creativity – 3.5
I enjoyed playing this map. As indicated in the story, bears and wolves provide the early challenge but it was not too hard to handle these four-legged enemies. The Market is fully enabled which enables the player to handle any short term surpluses or shorages. I did not try the F1 feature to test my settlement against an invasion. Playability – 4
Always hard to know how to rate balance in a freebuild scenario. This is a fairly easy play with the abundant resources and few enemies. Balance – 3
