This is a remake of the Helm's Deep fortress known from the Lord of the Rings film. It is based on the
fortress you see in the film, not the descriptions found in the book (which is, by the way, one of the
best ever written). I have, however, added some improvements to make it more practical and playable in
the Stronghold game. This means - some more towers and stairs which enables you to fall back if the Deeping
Wall (the main wall, for those of you who haven't seen the film, or read the book) is broken.
I also made the wall much thinner where the brook runs through it, to represent the fact that you'll have
to guard that part more carefully. This map is more invasion-like, but because you've only got a castle to
defend, and are unable to build buildings or train new soldiers, I consider it a Siege.

I have also added the Rohirrim reinforcements, who will arrive in about 15 months of game time. They are your
last chance of survival if you find yourself in a desperate situation surrounded by enemy soldiers,
breaching their way into your keep.

The enemy will prove a worthy adversary on this map. First, they will attempt to overrun the Deeping wall,
at the same time as they will rush the main gate. Then, they will send lots of warriors to the part that
seems to be most easily overrun, in most cases it will be the main gate. Defend it at all costs! If it is
breached, you will find yourself surrounded by enemy soldiers, as the attack on the Deeping wall will be
aborted, and you will have great problems preventing them from killing all of your archers. When your entire
army has fallen, your Lord (in this case king Theoden) will be no match for the meat-hungry Uruk-hai (if the
Rohirrim don't arrive just in time...).
NOTE: You will be attacked by additional waves of enemy soldiers - the more you kill, the more will come! (The
limit of 1000 will not be exceeded, which means when the limit is reached: if you kill 200 quickly, 200 new
units will replace these, if you kill 50, only 50 new enemy units will arrive in the next wave).

This version (2.0) has many major updates. Amongst them are delayed Rohirrim, redesigned fortress, civilians and a tougher enemy. I recommend playing on Medium or Hard.

Playability: 4
No problems playing the map, except on hard it was a chore to fend off the attacks. Had to restart a couple of times. Map was a little rpetitve at times, but still a lot of fun.

Balance: 3
Invaders seemed to stand around in strange areas, and my own troops were sluggish and seemed to have trouble navigating some of the sections around the fortress itself.

Creativity: 3
Sorry, but with all the Helm's Deep maps out there, it's just hard to give high score here, as there is just nothing new or unusual here.

Map Design: 3
The northern mountains are a little unnatural, and some of the terrain just seemed a little out of place with the rest of the map.

Story/Instructions: 3
Really more of a description than a storyline, and no minimap were the reasons for this score.

Well, this is more like it. I've tried different LOTR maps, and I'll say this is one of the better ones.

Playability - much better this time. The map is more challenging and more fun than your first map.

Balance - also better but there still are problems where the enemy don't know where to go (just standing there).

Creativity - being one of very many Helm's Deep maps, this is not a very creative map. But being one of the better ones raise this score a lot.

Map Design - great work! Many more details have been added, so I would give the castle a 5. The terrain is nice, but you could have done something more about the brook and the mountains.

Story - like LOTR, which I think is the best story ever written (agree with BlaCha). But as I see on other maps, to get a full score here you should include a minimap and a bit of the story (although most of you already know it).

First of all, HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!! This was probably the BEST LOTR map of Helms Deep i've ever played!!!!! Definitly awesome! The hoards of orcs, the elvish archers on the wall, it was great! It took me 3 nights to beat, but it played just like the movie.

Balance: 4
Little too accurate in numbers. It was like 10000 orcs to how many-hundred men.

Creativity: 5
I tried to make a Helms Deep map, but it sucked compared to this one. You really went all out on this map.

Map Design: 5
Only one word fits here: Perfect. Enough said.

Story/Instructions: 5
The story, I thought, really captured the feeling of the calm before the storm. It fit perfectly with the map and the battle.

Additional Comments: Can't wait to see what you do next!!!!
