3 The Conquest Begins
(Nonte: For resons or keeping my campaign in one section all maps will be submitted as invasions although some may be sieges, this map is a siege please take note of this in futher submissions).
Author and designer: Lord Arthus
You stare at the battlefield, the foul stench of blood and decaying flesh lingers through the settlement of Thoren. How could it come to this? The unplanned attack has decimated De Puce’s forces but you too are not without loses. The living conditions have become unbearable. Even with the bodies burnt and the settlement rebuilt the county of Thoren will never be the same.
As you lie in bed you are disturbed as the villagers yell out. It is no wonder why they are excited the last of the royal Redaxion army had arrived. One hundred plus crossbowmen, pikemen and spearmen had finally come to your aid.
“Arthur!” the leader yelled out”
“Yes, but its lord Arthur to you.”
“No Arthur I serve your father not you!”
The army your father had talked so much about was only a band of rotten militia.
“you senile old fool, he’s been dead for more than a year and in the meantime my forces have taken serious blows against the French, where the hell have you been?
He stared at you in amazement and then slowly removed his helmet.

This is an excellent map from Lord Arthrus!
Playabilty: 5
A wonderful map to play that makes you use brains instead of brawn. I am looking forward to playing this excellent map again and again! I really had to use my head on this one, as the defenses were excellently constructed, and a couple of very nasty traps were waiting to mangle my troops. Great job!
Balance: 5
Creativity: 4
The castle is thoughtfully and carefully designed, and I am including into creativity the ideas behind the layout, which force the player to plan the assault, rather than the "Guts and Glory" head on charge so frequent in so many other maps. The only flaw here is the confusing messages from the Rat. Not really quite in tune with the conditios of the map.
Map Design: 5
Beautiful map, with a natural and tough looking terrain, well crafted with a talented hand to give a flowing, natural feel. Excellent work!
Story/Instruction: 5
Good storyline, good in-map story, and a very nice looking description page, with minimap, and a very nice story document in the file.
Great map! A must have. Can't wait to play the next one! |

Good map, as Octavius has pointed out you really need to think when attacking! I am so close, just can't quite get there yet but I will. I felt I should review anyway adn I am sure you will not mind the balance mark ;-). I think I have got quite good at the beginning of the map, having my knight go forward and take down and then using the rest of the army from two sides to close in carefully. I can normally break in to the final enclosure but then often anhilated in the keep. The castle itself was slightly unusual looking especially, a bit too elongated and not quite realistic. I think maybe a few more options in attack and perhaps more siege engines would put the playability up to a full 5. I loved the troop layout in this map, having two forces with good solid blocks. Really looked like a real army. Well done! That really made creativity a 5! The design of the countryside is good as well and with a slighty better dedsigned castle another five would have been awarded. I think 9/10 there is a fair score. In the castle I did like the authentic wall towers, they always look great! For storyline/instructions I was very indescisive, I would if I could give 4.5 so very well done here as well. So hard for me to decide!
Overall this is a fun, challenging siege map to play. Don't give and keep at it! You will get there in the end! The heneral deisgn is good and backed up by a strong storyline. Recomended! Good work! |
