When I was recently searching for new innovative ideas and concepts (for another significant map style), I suddenly stumbled over this small and interesting invasion-map by Killerl 1.
Though you don’t have to fulfil any economic goals, this tricky scenario is fascinating by its exceptional creativity concerning operation and abilities of different combined military units. The author classified this mission as hard, but I think, that it’s easier to handle than you expect by utilizing all given possibilities.
You start with several groups of various units, each of them fit out with specific capacities: slingers, mace men, spearmen, engineers, ladder men and a couple of swordsmen. It’s your task to put several puzzles together that will finally achieve the one and only mission’s goal: “eliminating all enemies”. At first, the question is to find out a suitable defensive concept for your ruined and badly protected keep. (Beware of the soon forthcoming invasions by assassins and fire throwers!)
The malicious effect in this case: Most of all assassins will invisibly remain outside in the desert until you will decoy them. Your starting position has to be consolidated as fast as possible. Your keep is located in a ruined settlement, surrounded by partially destroyed towers and walls that won’t provide you with sufficient securities. I personally needed two attempts until I realized which method would work the best to protect my position from hostile encroachments. The apparently impregnable gigantic wall requires a special strategy. I managed it with the help of my engineers (fire ballista and shields). It was ineffective to fill in the moat in front of the thick wall, because my spearmen or macemen didn’t climb up the wall after my laddermen had set up their ladders against it.
With regard to an economic part: Of course, you are allowed to build up all kinds of farms here, but unfortunately, there isn’t any arable land to cultivate, so that you can’t care about food supply. Fortunately, you can ignore this fact. Even a constant low popularity won’t bother you, because it isn’t relevant to the accomplishment of this scenario.
Map design isn’t spectacular, but it’s a generally solid, good work. The best parts are the impressive wall and the lovely water and garden design behind of it. Unfortunately, the story is tolerably meagre and faulty concerning the orthographic part.
This map is something for players who don't like the economic parts of maps; here you have to defend and to attack by applying the "right strategy".
