Mountain Assault

Author File Description

File Details
Map Size: 300x300 (Medium)
Difficulty: Hard
Ok your castle has been raided by bandits on a regular basis yours weapon stores have been hit, over the past twelve months a number of horses were stolen and weve managed to track them to a small mountain fortress. Our scouts were spotted and managed to get back safely they couldn't tell us much except that they saw farms operational which could only means these banbits are much larger than we first thought. The land up there is made up of small valleys and complex river systems. They will have a height advantage on us so use the gold and engineers wisely and protect your archers and crossbow men the best you can.

This is the best siege done yet, by Craig. An extreemly complex map again, but this time there does seem to be some rhyme to his reason. Apart from some minor disturbances, I found this map to be very interesting from a strategic standpoint. You are not going to sit down as the attacker and take this map simply by employing large scale charges or assaults. It will take studying the map carefully to get anywhere at all, as the terrain is as much an enemy as the enemy themselves. But this time it seems to be laid out with some logic behind it, and I thought it a pleasant change of pace from your regular castle sieges. I think stretching the boundries of the game just to see what can be done with it is a good thing. Craig's the Salvadore Dali of siege maps. Thumbs up Craig

Easily, your best one yet Craig.

Playability was great - although I bet some will think it is too hard. It wasn't!!

Balance was good, too. I lost 45% of my troops on my third attempt win and I'm not sure I can win with a better score than that.

Creativity was outstanding. Your map is a perfect example of eye candy being integrated into the scenario for functional reasons, not just aesthetic ones.

You get -1 on Map Design for having me enter the map under fire by the Defenders. There was plenty of space on the map to have me come in and not be fired upon as my men spread out. It is an easy thing to fix though = )

I also took -1 for Storyline, but still ranked it above average (average being 3). You could move up to 5s if you include a .txt file and go a little more in depth with the story. Truthfully, if others had not created some pretty elaborate stories, you would prolly have gotten a 5 here. But, the bar for 5 level storylines is set very high.

Having seen all your Castles since your first one, you haev progressed very rapidly. This ranking ties one for Phrozen as my highest given to date. Great job! = )

To players and potential raters: You may reach the conclusion that this map is impossible, but it isn't. If you can't find the solution, don't rate the map low or off balance. If you persist and figure out how to win, you will discover the map is a quite balanced and extremely well designed scenario!
