The vanished Lady.
The happiest day in the life of old lord Gooseberry was his wedding to the young daughter of his best friend. She was a bright, pretty redhead, who liked the round dance and the games with her friends more than the stay in a dark castle, surrounded by older ladies, maids and servants, who told her to behave properly, only dance at the parties in the ballroom under the watchful eye of her husband and his noblemen. She tried to make the best of it, but after a few months her burst of laughter (oh, those dimples in her cheeks, when she laughed!) was seldom heard in the castle anymore.
A year after her marriage she suddenly disappeared, without a message, without taking something with her.
Lord Gooseberry was devastated. He ordered his army to search the whole country, but nobody found her.
A year later an old vagabond asked permission to talk to the lord. He told him about stories, told by peasants in a far away corner of the country about strange things, that happened in the woods around their hovels. Laughing was heard, and singing. In the mud the footprints were seen of small feet, womanlike. A hunter found a small, lace handkerchief, waving from a shrub.
On some paths in the forest there was the scent of perfume, not always, but especially on warm summer evenings.
The lord ordered his men to saddle his horse and accompany him to that place. They didn’t see a trace of the lady. In the valley in question they saw lakes and trees, but the only living creatures were the wild animals.
Standing in the middle of the green land suddenly Lord Gooseberry, shivering, cried to his men: “She must be here, she must. I feel her presence, I know she is here! That perfume….Oh…!!”
His worried companions, fearing, that the lord had gone insane, tried to bring him back home, while he offered much resistance, crying and cursing. The rest of his life he was locked up in a room, where he mumbled, cried and softly hummed strange melodies.
Go, saddle your horse, Milord, and travel to that forest. Stand where Lord Gooseberry stood and try to imagine, what he felt.
By the way, the perfume is the sweet scent of roses, pink roses.

What a charming, clever map, ladyjane!
Nicely balanced, although I think I should have placed my keep more centrally. I liked having all the wolves around - it kept me on task with developing resources and making weapons. There is, of course, more iron in this map than could ever be used! :)

Very creative! I enjoyed zooming in and out, to see the features of the face. All areas (even the eyes) are accessible for development. I'm afraid her face looked somewhat the worse for wear when I was done building all over it. :)

Great story!
