Brandenburg: Chapter Four

Author File Description
File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Normal
Brandenburg was the greatest castle built by the weakest nation. The king has charged you with the construction of his invisioned fortress. However, the Snake grows weary at the knowlege that you are hoarding resources near his lands...

Dire news is received when a messenger reports that the Snake has signed a treaty with a more powerful foe.

This is the fourth chapter and is the begining chapter of Act Two, which deals with the defense of the great castle during its construction. Act Three will deal with the finishing touches of the castle, and the final stand against the Snake and his allies.

Act Two (chapters four through six) was meant to be slightly moderate now that the Snake realizes that a threat arrises in his nothern territory, and takes greater action to stop it. There will be harder chapters to come.

Special thanks to The Ztolk and shadowjump for playtesting this scenario!

I helped to play test this map, so I feel like I know it pretty well. I played it about 20 times, and I really never felt bored or tired of playing it again. I think the map is challenging but not hard. If the first three chapters felt too easy for you, then then this next installment should challenge you more.

The story continues to deepen from the initial three maps, and the continues in a logical progression. The map is not special except for the concept of having your town away from the castle, which provides some unique game play.

I am looking forward to the 5th chapter, and seeing the Brandenburg grow!

Overall, this map has some really good qualities but it just did not deliver the same level of entertainment as other maps I have downloaded.

Playability: I gave it a 3 because I did not find the game that addictive. I did not get bored with it but the action did not "keep me on the edge of my seat"

Balance: 3 Overall the military strategy for this mission seemed awfully straightforward. At no point did I really feel outnumbered or threatened. I did not find any overwhelming surprises. The size of the invasions could have been bigger. And at the end I was able to settle in and meet the objectives. A few repeating invasions thrown in to keep you on your toes would have been nice.

Creativity: Also a 3. I really liked the town outside the keep. Unfortunately because of the location of the sign posts the town was never in jeopardy. Allowing some of the invaions to come through the heart of your town on the way to the keep, would have made for some really anxious moments, as you try to defend your Lord and the town. The other element that I thought was different and creative was the inability to finish the keeps walls. That was a great idea and went well with the story.

Map design: 3 The map did not have any ugly spots to it but honestly it did not strike me as beautiful either. When I looked at the elevation around the iron and the stone it just seemed a little unnatural.

Story : Although the story was put together well and flows with the other parts of this series, it did not get me excited about playing the scenario.

Conclusion: This map was average. The really good part is that this map has real potential for suspense and good fighting. Unfortunately, for me it did not deliver.
