This is a challenging little scenario I made originally as an experiment on the map editor but after a few adjustments it turned out ok. It is only a single scenario with a simple original storyline but if you want a challenge then try this map ;)
I just played this map twice, once on hard and then on very hard. I am an expert at single player, so keep that in mind when reading this.Still though, it was a bit of a dissapointment on the promised challenge.
Playability : It was fun to play, I like those little and basic scenarios in which you can only build archers and spearmen. Sadly though it was MUCH too easy, even at very hard. I was even able to go to the toilet to do something big without pausing the game. This was during an invasion, while running gamespeed 90 and playing at very hard difficulty level. This problem can be solved by altering some stuff :
I did not build any walls, towers or gates, because you start with the flat topped wooden keep, on this I placed my archers (about a hundred).
I would advice to make it a Saxon hall.
The invasions were much too small, they should maybe be even twice as big.
Balance : The map was much too easy, both military and economically. A 20 minutes first try win is well within grasp, especially at normal difficulty.
Creativity : All in all a nice 'small' map looking ok, basic but nice story and fun to play. Absolutely nothing special about it though.
Map design : An ok looking map with a nice waterfall as it's best point. Small mistake was that I could build hunters but that there are no deer at all. Because of this the hunters sit at their huts, I used them as a defensive re-spawning outer line. (Cheap bowmen, LOL)
The keep was build on a steep hill, this made building close to the stockpile limited, something I liked.
Overall a nice but fairly basic map.
Story/Instructions : A basic and short story, not bad though, that also gave some tips.
I very much missed an explanation for the objectives; why should I gather food and gold, and let all of em drink ale?
Conclusion : A good idea, but not fleshed out enough yet to be memorable or replayable.
Bartman; spent some more time on this one and it could become a good map.
