"A NEW wORLD" is a continuation of "THE LORD OF THE MARCHES." Our intrepid hero returns to the court of his liege, King Charles, hoping to enjoy the fruits of his success. When, to his dismay, he is unceremoniously shipped oversea to establish a colony in a newly discovered land.
Here he is faced with the task of surviving the onslaught of the Xteca Empire while trying to meet the economic demands of King Charles. The full story is in the zip file.

This map consists of a two-tiered plateau with your keep on the upper tier. Iron, stone, and lumber are on the second tier. A river parallels the plateau. Good farm land is found along the river. It will be difficult to use until the Xtecas quit invading. Antelope and lions are scattered throughout the map. The south is full of mountainous plateaus which contain additional lumber, iron, and stone.

This is my second invasion map. It is similar to "The lord of the Marches." Thank you Stratego for your review and comments. They were accurate and helpful. I have tried to incorporate some of them in this map.

Just a note on what I am trying to do with these maps. I also play and enjoy Zeus, a city builder game. I am trying to incorporate some of the city builder features of Zeus with the military action of Crusader.

A New World

Playability: There’s lots of playability here, nothing is prebuilt and you’re absolutely free to build up your own castle and settlement, and to arrange your economy as you like. You can use various resources and believe me; every player will find his own strategy and tactics to fulfil all demanded objectives. I’m generous and will give five points for it.

Balance: Economically, balance is perfect, and food supply is a real problem in this scenario; the arable land and the green areas along the river are far away from the keep (or granary), requiring all your skill for a profitable output. I personally had to rebuild most of my destroyed farms several times, until I found out a method how to protect them in an effective way. You have to withstand several attacks by lions, bandits and of course many different invaders. However, I’ve got one critical suggestion concerning the invasions: Sometimes the enemies are unperturbed passing through the total map gathering at the northern signpost. You can use this fact to your advantage by weakening them on their long march, earlier before they will start their attacks. Unfortunately, the second little flaw: If reinforcements are triggered off, these archers will often collide with the superior invading troops, so that just a few of these archers will safely arrive at your keep.

Creativity: With regard to the well-realized concept, the author applied nearly all basics for a good-working game play. Well done!

Map Design: I think, it’s a good and solid work, but not extraordinary. You’ll see a relatively naturalistic landscape here, but partially some smoothing is needed and there are too many superfluous iron and stone deposits, for example on the south-eastern plateaus, looking a little bit unrealistic, in my opinion.

Story: The author correctly describes the actual situation that the player will expect here. The story is well written in an entertaining manner and presents you an exact image of all the assets and liabilities that you have to take into consideration for your future planning.

Altogether, it is an enjoyable and challenging map by Von Kamstra. Give it a go!

Stratego ;-)
