The name of this map is Guess the movie, so after downloading it,
I was a little surprised not to open up yet another LOR map, that was a huge relief!
You begin with your small stone keep and stockpile which has been placed for you in a large grass filled area of the map, with plenty of resources close-by,and basically the rest is upto you.
The map is 300x300 and consists mainly of large flat grassland, with 2 small areas of raised terrain, a large river winds gently from one side down to the lower screen area, dividing the land into two, a small area and a large area, a ford crosses between the two, so all resources on the map can be reached.
One of the two small raised areas contains both stone and iron deposits, the other horseshoe shaped, enclosed area contains at least a 1000 rabbits, (don't ask!!!)
There are wooded areas, one of which follows along both banks of the river edge, and the rest scattered around the map, some shrubs and small stones break up the remaining flat grassland.
From my own viewpoint the map is a little too featureless, and could do with a little more use of the terrain sculpting tools.
Nice to see that the author has added some outside interest by placing some furry man-eating wolves, its always nice for the player to be kept on his toes, even in a free-build.
Map Design:3
-------------------
The map has easily reached resources which are not to far from your keep, so that collecting everything you require to expand your citadel is a little to easy, but there again what else can you do with a free-build? It would be nice though, if free-builds were made a little more challenging, as in real life, it would not have been so easy, would it?
Balance: 3
-------------------
The map plays as well as any in free-build mode, I mean the basic idea is to.... build freely, what more can you say.
Playability:3
-------------------
As the name of the game is 'Guess the movie' the author has tried to inject some fun into the map, my only problem with this was why? The bleeding wabbits only slow the game down,I played on warp factor 90 and my poor inhabitants crawled around, until I decided to have the biggest wabbit pie the world has ever seen, after this fulfilling banquet my inmates looked like they were on some sort of speed inducing drug.
Nice try
Creativity: 3
--------------------
Story what story?
Black Knights, the knights of Nee, blood thirsty wabbits, a quest for the Holy Grail is that it!
Oh come on Mr you may know the story but what about filling the rest of us in with some enhanced details.
OK I see the funny side.
Story:3
--------------------
A bit of fun in a free-build. albeit only in the authors imagination,
I have seen a lot better designed maps, better playability, far greater creativity, a pyramid upside down has far better balance then this map, the story must have come out of a Chinese cookie, yet somehow for a few brief moments it mad me slightly laugh.
One final thing, I think the title of the film is.........
The Revenge of the Pink Panther. |
