This Economic mission will keep you busy and thinking for a while. The castle itself has been built and sadly your masons have moved on to new challenges. Any damages that the mighty walls of this castle receives will be there for the entire episode. Take heed my friends and be warned, not all things are well in this young Kingdom.
This secenario has been tested at all skill levels and presents challenges to any level of play. It is not an extremely hard scenario and should provide you with somne entertaining hours of fun.

Playability: Almost perfect with no real problems (apart from the occasional bandit raid going AWOL somewhere). This map is big and the castle is one of the largest I have had to play with. At first I was worried that with everything more spaced out that I was used to I would struggle to keep it all flowing along (i.e. food to granary, movement of troops around the castle, flour to bakeries, etc) but once you get to a certain level of population and production really starts to kick in, things are fine and the castle runs itself more or less. However, it's the getting there that makes this map enjoyable.
Balance: This is quite a challenge and I reached my limit playing normal level with a population of 130. I had a quick look at very hard and for this the gold required goes through the roof, but more importantly the population moves up the the mid/high 200's! However, there are only a few events to cause you concern, which is good, because this map really does rely on juggling of resources in order to win. A couple of invasions may cause you to tear your hair out and I recommend that you do not neglect your defences. Once these are over, you can concentrate on the economic goals. Very hard, but very well done.
Creativity: This is a brilliant way to forget about the castle building side and concentrate on what some would call 'number crunching', or something similar at least. There have been a few maps I have played where you concentrate your skills on defence (Lines of Defence, reviewed recently) and this is an economic version. Very good practice, and another good map where you have to think carefully about what to build. Nice to see a limited market place, I feel this adds a degree of realism.
Map Design: Okay, so the castle is already built. But it is stunning in design, a real working stronghold that has more than enough room to house all your peasants as they go about their chores. It looks very realistic in parts when viewed from above, with the separate 'rooms' providing visually what we usually see when visiting castles (side point: I would love to see Great Halls, separate roofed rooms, sleeping chambers, etc that were the norm in some later Norman castles in the map editor). Some of the stair and wall work was very good, I love the idea of getting from one wall level to another by stairs that almost seem hidden. Again, smacks of reality, which I like to see. The map itself was very well done; rolling countryside, bit of sea, all created well and pretty much seamless. Maps this well designed are hard to come by.
Story/Instructions: Well presented, nice detail and easy to read. Always pleased to see a picture when previewing a map prior to download. To be honest, I was considering giving it 3 rather than 4, but the whole map carries this side well enough.
This is a challenge that I think everybody who likes to build, rather than destroy, will thoroughly enjoy. Don't be put off by the pre-built castle, this is a great map with a good storyline and some tough economic goals. The whole map comes together well. Definitely recommended. |

Really enjoyed this map. The story and instructions really add to the enjoyment. I really had difficulty initially getting my economy going, but eventually worked things out. The large already in place castle is massive attractive and really makes this map interesting to play even when the invasions are gone. Well done sire! |

I loved the pre-built castle. It was really pretty and allowed me to defend my castle fairly well. While there were a significant amount of events occuring, it got a bit boring towards the end. But all in all, it was a fun map to play! |

You are good but if it only were without the walls and the other stuff only a empty map where i can choose my own place to selttle down but any way well done. |

Having had an eye on Sulis' review, I was disappointed by the scenario. The map is too big, the castle is too big (I'm not impressed by blocking walls), the requests are easy to gain, few events happen. What if I can buy exactly the requested goods at market? Bought leather armour and ale like mad.
Nobody forces you to site the granary inside the castle (a huge flat space but cow farms restricted ...). And nobody hinders you from smashing the walls that block the edges for the workers (you can trade away stones). Had finished the mission on very hard long before the last enemy appeared.
Cause this is the big bang of the eco map: Real invasions will come (map type changing trick). |

I was passing by out of curiousity and noticed the minimap graphic link was dead. So I took the liberty of adding the minimap. In the process I had to guess that the version used was v1.1 (the update form insists that the version is now added)

Playability: 5
No problems, no bugs, all good.
Balance: 3
The scenario is defenitely too easy, even on the hardest difficulty. I'd say that the hardest is what the easiest should look like - we have a lot, a lot of time to prepare crossbowmen before the final attack comes. Even ~30 crossbowmen is enough to win the final fight - I had 150 and I could've done more.
Creativity: 2.5
This low creativity score is due to lack of interesting economical challenges. All I had to do was to place buildings and I was drowning in resources.
Map Design: 4.5
Beautiful map! What I didn't like was the fact that many walls after deleting were still a impassable because of the cliffs that were put under them to make them look taller.
Story/Instructions: 5
