You are a Lord starting a Empire. You want to be a King!
There a many enemy's standing in you way!
Protect you little castle agains the enemy forces of the Rat. Make 22 bows and 43 spears. With these weapons you can attack his castle in the next mission.
tip: Let some Archers cross the waterfall. They can shoot down enemy troops from some hight, before they can attack you!
I'm from the Netherlands, so I hope my English is not to bad. Have Fun!
I was very pleasently surprised by this map. I have played 'The Ambush' of the same designer first, and read the review about his third map. They both score 2+, one review is by me and the other by someone else.
Well, this map is a totally different story!
I needed 4 tries to beat it at hard difficulty setting.
Playability : This map is great fun, it was very challenging, but not impossible. The attacks consist mainly out of spearmen, and it is SO nice to slaughter them with archers by the douzens! It is also very nice to play in a beatifull landscape.
Balance : Struck gold! Very challenging military part, with just the right economical capabilities to support it.
Creativity : The lake is very creative, it has 'waterplants'in it, made of small shrub on single squares of land.
Map design : magnificent, it is a small map that still has many elements in it, all at the right place. Some beatifull things : a waterfall, the lake! and dirt roads.
There is just the right amount of building space.
Another nice thing : there is only one sign post, but because the lake is between it and your keep, the enemy splits, so you still have the enemy coming from two sides.
Small things to improve : the player could build churches, but not aquire any stone to do so. There were a few good and bad things that could be deleted for some gold.
Story/instructions : I guess nothing's prefect, in this case the story. It was quite short and no fun to read.
The designer did give some instructions though, and there where a few in-game messages.]
Also, the spelling and grammar were not correct too, but since the guy is Dutch, and I'm guessing not very old, I decided to cut him some slack on that.
To Simon : very good work! You apperently do now after all how to make a good map, so my advice would be to re-work your other maps to this high level.
Your story's are still a weak point though, so I would improve that, or get help from a friend who's good at that.
