Joyous Gard (Rate!)

Author File Description
File Details
Map Size: 300x300 (Medium)
Difficulty: Normal
Most of the story is in the scenario page when you open up Stronghold so if you rate this make sure you read that first.
when jelous knights see Sir Lancelot talking in the room with Queen Gwenevere (King Arthurs wife) they rush to the king imediatly and the king loves Sir Lancelot dearly but if his followers see that he cant punish a dishonest wife and a knight. There may be an uprising for there are many barons not happy with appointment of the king and the first sign of weakness they may revolt so King Arthur banishes Sir Lancelot and gives Queen Gwenevere the sentence for the crime shes commited. BURNING AT THE STAKE!!! But of course Sir Lancelot wasnt going to sit there and wait for his lover to burn to death he gathers most of his kinsmen and most of his followers and freinds and he sets forth to rescue the Quenn in doing so he kills his two of his closest freinds Sir Gareth and Sir Percivale which angers Sir Gawain and angers the king but he still dearly loves Sir Lancelot and that sparks a war betwen them ect ect... but thats a diffrent story when Sir Lancelot rescues the quenn and brings her back to the Joyous Gard (his favorite castle)he has to defend against of course King Arthur...

For your first map this is a good attempt.

Playability: 3
There are many ways to defend castles. Pitch, boiling oil, killing pits (use them!) The map just lacked a spark and spirit that makes it origional and really enjoyable.

Balance: 4
The best aspect of the map. It was completeable on normal, but the enemy did manage to breach the walls. Well done!

Creativity: 2
There are lots of maps of this type. The castle was a bit dreary - lacks a bit of spark - some village life? Buildings. The map must feel part of your story. The story here wasn't really related to the map and this dampens enthusiasm to play it.

Map design: 3
Castle was adequate, and you had tried to landscape, but you need to use more of the editor tools to greater effect to give your map that polish. Some ripples in the water, some trees, a bit of sea, some beach, a few ruined towers, hills and mountains, a quarry, the list is endless.

Story/Instructions: 3
Story is a bit loose and not really tied into the map.
"But thats another story"

Why is it there then? You have to be able to link the two, while its fine having background information I want to know whats going on here, now!

SPG? Try putting your story in Word first and running spell/grammar check - it makes it look more professional. Add a bit more of that imaginative spark - make the reader feel part of it.
And please...please use paragraphs (on the description page) Its hard to read otherwise.

I know this sounds a bit critical, but don't let it get you down. Think of this as a push in the right direction. Take this advice and you will design brilliant maps in the future. You have great potential.

well I thought I put a really long story in and the castle looked really good I dont know what you mean by "spark" but there really isnt any village life in a siege. I know that youre the player I just want more feedback it just sounded like you said it was bad. I think the story should be a 4 at least it was long and I know there was some mistakes in grammar but cmon really that just a little of the map.

This map was fun for me, i found it a little easy, but is an overall good map.

Playability: The enemy surrounds quickly, but the enemy is a bit confused and keeps destroying your walls after them are breached

Balance: I think is a good balance, but maybe there are too many knights in the defending side. I think more infantry and less knights would be better.

Creativity: Nothing too original, it is just fine.

Map design: I think it looks nice but.. needs more features to increase rank.

Story/ Instructions: I was confused with the story, and I think that maybe you should write a bit more in another file.
Long isn't necessarily good. If you read Zebas's review properly, you'll see he says that the story isn't really related to the downloaded map. Spellchecking & good grammar is important, especially for those who don't have English as their first language. The story is a very important part of the map. It's what makes a lot of people want to download it.

He explained what he meant by 'spark' - he said that there are a lot of very similar maps to download and this one didn't have that little extra/different to make it stand out. He also said it was a very good first map.

The reason theres so many knights is because its in king arthurs time when there was a lot of them and Sir Lancelot was getting reinforcements thats why you see knights coming.
