In this scenario, you have been given the very nice lands situated near hot and sunny beaches. However, many dangerous barbarians claim these lands and want you out. You must defend your village from numerous assaults and prepare for the final attack at the end.
It is a small interesting scenario, where speed and trade have to be used effectively to build a sizeable defense force and other bonus features will come as you play.
Tips : It is possible to survive the first wolf and swordsman attack: use your archers wisely and don't rush in too fast your 2 pikemen. Then build a fast economy (wheat and apples) and wood defenses while making a maximum of arms.
I had a great game playing this map! Plenty of options. And a deceptive, but then suspenseful, start.
Playability 5: Just the sort of map I enjoy. Freedom to build the way you want to. I like it when I can dig a moat.
Balance 4: I played on normal. After I had weathered the wolf pack attack it seemed like a fairly calm start. But then the enemy troops started to turn up unexpectedly and they were armoured types! Yikes! I had to rapidly improvise and deployed woodcutters down their line of march. It was a close run thing! Later, I managed to build an army which handled the other invasions with not much difficulty.
Creativity / Map Design 4: There was not much in the way of fancy stuff but the terrain was a very good one to play on. There was a nice attempt to shelter the central signpost from tower-borne attack (but I still managed to locate a tower overlooking it). The gifts of event-triggered archers were a nice bonus.
Story/Instructions 3: Good story. Some quite good hints on the site and in the map. (I did not need to trade although the instructions suggested I would have to). No mini-map on the description page.
If you like building castles, holding off the enemy with a moat, and carving out a patch for a large economy in the woods you'll enjoy this one. Thank you author for providing me with a good evening’s play!
