It is the year 1341.
Peace and prosperity have flourished under the reign of King James III. Assuming that England's straits and waters will protect Her, the benign King has all but dismantled the military, leaving only a token militia and his own protectorate, the Royal Knights of the Crown.
But now rumors have surfaced of a new threat to the country. A Germanic conqueror, Baron Von Schrapp, has led his forces across Europe, plundering and ransacking the thrones of once mighty kingdoms. Now the "Mad Wolf", as he is known throughout Europe, has set his sight upon the throne of England, as well. Sweeping in from the North, the Baron's forces have routed the weakened militias and claimed several counties, pillaging England's riches and tormenting Her subjects.
King James, fearful for his crown and his life, has sent the commander of the Knights as an emmissary to the Baron, in hopes of bargaining a peace with the Germanic invader. To the horror of everyone, the response of the Baron was swift and brutal. The emissary's head was delivered to the King, with terms for the immediate surrender of the throne. Now the King has appointed you to commander of the Knights, and ordered you to marshal your forces and repel the invaders. You are ordered to the Keep at Gladdenstone, the next logical target for the Baron's forces. Located near a harsh marshland known as "The Fens", the Keep is the last bastion of defense before the heart of England is opened to the army of the Baron.
