Yes, this is my first map for Stronghold, but I think it's pretty good.

The story:
Your lovely castle in the lands of Palea lies almost deserted as you continue to fight in the holy land.

The great crusade has dragged on and on. Now European barons fight petty wars against each other on hostile soil. For months, you have been in a stalemate with your hated enemy, The Wolf. All that changed a month ago. A large portion of your army betrayed you at a key battle, suddenly throwing you in terrible peril. Desperate to survive, your army raced west across the desert to the ships that would bring you back to Palea. The Wolfs troops pursued you for weeks, bent on anihilating you once and for all. Finally, you were only one day away from your ships. That night, you stayed in Caracath, an abandoned Arabian castle. The next morning, terrible news arrived. The Wolf had sent out an advance party that was almost at Caracath's door! All that remained of your once-mighty army was a handful of mercenaries. Fortunately, the advance party was only a fraction of The Wolf's mighty force. If you can defeat them, then you will be able to make it to the ships.

Good luck!

1-1 Changes:

Stratego Caracath

Wow, what a funny map, and one of the quickest scenarios that I’ve ever played so far…
When I started this mission, I immediately clicked on the mercenary post noticing that there wasn’t any mercenary available for me. At once, I erected one barracks and while I was trying in vain to reinforce my weak garrison in a small and plain Arabian castle, I suddenly took the message of the enemy’s arrival.

In view of the advancing hostile superiority I first thought there only would help praying. However, changing quick reactions of my pitiful bunch of mercenaries kept me alive and surprisingly I survived this quite strong invasion in my first attempt, even when the enemy broke through the walls. Normally, I prefer combining economic aspects with military objectives, but in this case, struggle is representing the focus of attention in spite of all given possible economic options that you cannot pursue here.

I suggest switching off most of all building options in the editor, because they are superfluous. You have to make use of all strategic tricks to handle this hard invasion composed of assassins, macemen, pikemen, swordsmen and of course archers. A well-thought and precise coordination of your handful slingers, archers, fire throwers, and the Lord’s bodyguards (Arabian swordsmen) will be essential for being victorious.

I wished a little more effort on map design that might be improved by using more intensively the decorating tools in the map editor (for example: different heights, more rocks and stones, plants, ruins and so on). Generally, the landscape is flat and would need further modulations in my opinion. Well, we have a restrictive but good playability here and balance is perfect. This new map designer wrote up a short but pithy story that is well suited to the imminent event in the game.

I really enjoyed playing this individual and interesting map. Five attempts (3 times defeated and twice victorious).

A very promising start, penguin! Congratulations – keep it up!
