Archers & spearmen map, althought you can hire macemen but you must buy the iron to produce the maces... And you can use pitch, also if you buy it... You will soon find out that you are limited in space... I recommend level very hard for advanced players...

Map Design 3/4
This is an excellent map and well worth downloading for some great eco invasion action. I needed 2 attempts to get to grips with what’s happened within the game, but the more I understood about the map and how it ticks, the further I was sucked in. I really was very satisfied to see the economy going strong and my army kicking the proverbial. In the end I completed Small Little Kingdom on ‘Normal’ setting and was well pleased with my deserved victory.
Playability - 5 – at the start the of the campaign you need act quickly in order to get everything moving, once up and running, it’s then a battle between the various circumstances and inevitable invasions. It might sound a little too familiar but this is a good map of this kind and although the map design is simple it’s certainly effective as a complete package.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing this map for the very reason it kept me concentrated on what was happening.
Creativity 3 – I can’t really say there’s anything creative about this map hence the score, the castle it box shaped and the landscape it standard, but I wouldn’t have enjoyed the map if it wasn’t for the way everything was…In order for the map to succeed, it had to be that way…..as creative castle design is down to the player involved as he/she expands the kingdom.
Balance 5– The balance is good, and pretty much perfect for the way the scenario pans out. Eco goals are in tune with the overall game play – and the weapons available do the job well in the scheme of things.
Map design 3/4 - It’s al right, the landscape is decent for the game. 4 sign posts in each corner, plenty of deer, a couple of rocks scattered, a bush here, a bush there. Nothing spectacular, but more than enough to enjoy playing and not think to much about it ….
Story 4 - It was fine, a little short but I liked the way you presented it and it told a tale.
Overall Small Little Kingdom is a fine map and well worthy of a Stronghold session….Good work Duc
Review of Duc de Noisiel’s “Small little kingdom” scenario
I am reviewing this map to bring it to the notice of other players who may have missed it. I was looking for place your keep maps. I found and played another of the author’s maps, “Zealed Lord mission”. I enjoyed that so much I went looking for more of his maps (as you do). And that is how I found this “wee gem” (as we say in Scotland)…
I played on Hard and had fun right up to the end of the game. I was never bored. It is a small map but that added to rather than detracted from the playing experience. Working around the space restrictions was part of the challenge. I was, at first, disappointed that I could not recruit xbowmen. But it was a nice change for me not to be building masses of xbows and mowing down the enemy (the way I usually do things).
I played on Hard and won second time around. All the way through the game I was re-evaluating how big an army I would need to see off the next invasion. I was very close to the time limit. I sacrificed some of the more costly weapons shops that I no longer needed before the end to help make the gold target. I did feel confident during the second play that I was on course to win but I cut it quite fine.
Three main aspects showed excellent creativity: 1) The use of the small map format combined with what felt like the perfect combination of castle size and signpost placement; and 2) The little castle itself. The castle was simple yet interesting and unusual. It had its keep door /gathering ground outside like a front porch. (I took this as a hint on how to beat the map.) I also had fun making my own additions to it.;
3) The story on the site is provided in a book graphic. Most unusual and attractive.
In addition you play as orange because you are the Rat.
Map Design 4
Aside from the pretty much flawless terrain, the sculpting of the land near two of the signposts contributed greatly to the balance. The enemy archers at these arrival points had an elevated firing position, and some cover, helping them inflict casualties on the garrison. The restrictions of towers to perimeter turrets prevented me getting too much of an advantage over the enemy. The one slight minus here was that the oil pot was available but not the engineer barracks. This was either an oversight or a very sneaky red herring ;-) because I would have had to buy the iron. [In Scotland we call it a “dummy sell”.] But I didn’t buy it :-). The invasions are really nice in that they are well judged and contribute to the balance. Events also contributed to balance. I like that there are no fires (other than self-inflicted – oops ;-) .
The story lets you know that you are the Rat and, like the map, it is small and perfectly formed. Actually, the spelling/grammar is not perfect but that is more than made up for by the presentation of the site page in HTML with graphics. The hints at the end of the site page are helpful but not too revealing. (See also Creativity above about the super book graphic).
A great “little” scenario. If you missed it first time around like I did or if you are new here then I recommend you download it. If you played it and have forgotten about it, maybe you should dig it out and play it again?
