The great wall of china has just been compleated. the chinese empire is growing but it can not grow with the constant attacks by the mongolians. the emporor has asked you to hold the wall agenst gengis kahns forces (the pigs forces).
this map took a while cause i kept messing up with my wall it would deleat itsself. this map gets harder and harder by the attacks. good luck on surviving the last attack. this map should be played on normal or hard..i did it on hard when i tested it then i just played on normal it is still kinda hard.. enjoy and good luck
Playability 3/5 This map is playable and it has reinforcements and invasions following but after a while it gets booring
Balance 2/5 Balance is fine and the scenario is quite good but again its booring and nothing good happens
Creativity 2/5 There is not much here you've just made a wall through the center of the map thats it. If it wasn't for the name people won't even recognize what is it.
Map Design 2/5 This is the area needing a lot of work even tough the topic is not good still by good scenes you can attract people and it gets them to play a while more but there is nothing god to see here map only flat damp land with elevation at some places.
Story / Instructions 1/5 No story no nothing just play on this map like an idiot.
Great Wall of China is an excellent example of creative thinking that has the back bone of good, playable map, although it has a few basic faults woven into its fabric, it still holds up to being a nice map that is more than a challenge to get your head around. To begin with the faults, they are easily corrected in the editor – It appears that there is no goal set – I presume Spark wanted victory to be achieved by eliminating all the enemy! So before you begin playing a little bit of work is required in the editor, nothing too difficult.
Playability – 3.
The Great wall, that is of course the Chinese one is the focal point of the map, it’s also the dividing barrier between the invading armies and your economy – you have to defend the wall for your life. You start with plenty of archers but you must develop your own troops to gain victory. The invasions are quite sizable but with good positioned they can be nicely dispatched.
Balance – 2
Not the greatest balance in the world but good enough to play and enjoy. The map size is far too big for the concept employed and resources were scattered too far away. I found that I didn’t have enough time to make use of the iron or the stone – because the map only lasts for 5 years. (iron particularly)
This was a shame as the idea is a good one.
Map Design – 3
Overall it’s not bad, the very fact the map size is way too big makes everything look more scattered and isolated than maybe it should have been. Resource areas have been crafted using the editor and also the mountainous land by the sign post is an example of Spark’s ability – Maybe if the land wasn’t so flat and the trees not looking so out of place then for sure map design would score higher. The Great Wall of China deserves plaudits for everything good about it, a good effort and a playable map
Creativity – 2
Apart from the idea of having a great wall run through the middle of the map there isn’t too much of creativity here – incidentally I really like the idea though. It’s just unfortunate there are no pieces of eye candy on display, because they do add something to the map – if your not sure how to go about this just check out the Stronghold site, I believe Kester is running a piece on map design so it’s worth checking out – it’s always good to refer to other people’s work….God, I do all the time :)
Story – 1
With not a word I can’t score you more than 1, you don’t have to write much normally and a very brief description will always score you a 3….Next time make anything up obviously relating to the map and just include it.
In short this map has the foundations of different success’ – I look forward to seeing more work.
