The Conquest IX -
The journey down from the Eledrin Pass was an easy one and the reception down in the lowlands beyond a joyous one to say the least. The army was cheered while marching villages and many peasants rose up in support of the conquest. The Wolf’s men fled to higher ground in the north, abandoning their posts.
Having heard that a large army army from the Wolf was deployed just north of his position, sent from the Wolf's capital these were the finest soldiers the Wolf could use. Edward however gathered his force and began to march north once more ignoring advice to wait for re-enforcements. Edwards army is mostly untrained and lighty armoured...
Your task is to lead his army of peasants against the might of the Wolf while holding his re-enforcements from the north.
The Conquest in general follows the path of Prince Edward and many other characters in their conquest for peace in the islands of Hertoin. The first five maps will be set in Sallium and the last five in Dinlathia. As well as the prologue video which can be downloaded here there will be a epilogue video.
This is a hard map and can be played on easy for less experienced players.
Note/ You have ten years to complete this map, at the end of that time huge invasions arrive from the Wolf and victory will be impossible.

I was watching for some old good maps amongst the Downloads and found this good-looking, unrated one, so I decided that I would play and rate it. I played the map, and before I start explaining the scores, I would like to say that I have an expectation why it hadn't been rated back then...
Playability/Balance: 3
As the penultimate map of the series I excepted a hard mission, however it was easy (way too easy). As I opened the map and started to play, I quickly noticed that there was a huge unprotected area east from the enemy keep, so the only thing I had to do was sending there my macemen and some spearmen, just to be careful I led them on the very borders of the map to aviod all contacts with the enemy. And as soon as I rounded the keep the only thing I had to do was breaching the walls and send my 150 melees againat the lord, who was protected by 10 swordsmen and some xbows from the gate. I won the mission by the end of the second year. I was a bit wondered who could it be such easy, so I lookedat the instructions. To my greatest surprise, I read that this is meant to be the hardest map in the campaign, and I read that too, that the area right from of the enemy castle was full with "hundreds of traps". My first reaction was to open it with the editor and see if it's and yes there were a lot of traps. And the question now is: How could I avoid them? The answer: there were no traps on the border area on the map, and my troops could easily sneak through and kill the lord. Though with the "normal way" of playing the scenario it would be challenging and hard, however that design/gamplay flaw was too big to not count that in the score, so that's why I rate the Playability/Balance only a 3.
With a bit more playtesting, this problem could easily be solved before uploading the map.
Creativity: 4.5
I like these kind of scenarios, where the player has to kill the enemy lord while fending off invasions. These maps are rare and unique amongst the SH1 downloads and have a bit of.. Crusader feeling. However, this map was more unique. The player here can manage only troops and a small camp, while the invasions attack rapidly. Also, the troops are nicely positioned on both sides, it really seems like that they are preparing for a battle, the traps on the right side of the castle was also a great idea to scare away players from choosing the "easy way" (which was really easy, as the traps had very minor effect; see playability and balance above). A 4.5 seems a fair score here (not counting the playability flaws).
Map Design: 5
A very pleasent and great looking landscape. The rivers are shaped well and the terrain tools are excellently used. The landscape felt very big, no mountains and forests, just an open barren landscape. Outstanding job!
Story/Instructions: 5
A not too long, but an interesting and well written story follows the map. In addition, some instructions and hints are present too in the .doc file. In my eyes that well worth a five.
