Map Design2.0
Playability: I gave this map a 2 on playability because although quite challenging on the attacking side, the defense was basically unplayable more or less due to a stairway leading directly over the wall and into your castle. Although I brought every soul in the castle over to defend the stairway, they were quickly slaughtered and my Lord "slain". Balance: I gave this map a 3 on balance again due to the easy time the attackers have of gaining entry to your castle, before, the experience I had while attacking was somewhat better, and I feel playing offense is more balanced. Creativity: Creativity I gave a 4. The castle was very well done, and fun to move around in due to the layout and design of the walls, although the addition of the stairway looked cool, on defensive principles I deduct 1 point, and thus, we have a 4. Map Design: Map Design I gave a 2. The landscape thats there looks good but there just isnt much of it. Its mostly flat, and I personally prefer to play on a map with a few vallys and hills and maybe a little eye candy here and there. It wasnt horrible by any means, it seemed merely functional and rather basic. Story/Instructions: This was the weakest part of the submission as there were two lines of text with basically no story or explination whatsoever. The brief explination of where the idea for this castle came from was nice, but it was only a couple of sentences long, and there wasn't any thing written or included concerning gameplay issues. Summary: Not a bad siege playing as the attacker as it does offer a challenge, and was enjoyable for me as I forgot where all the pitch was placed and failed to reach the stairway that leads over the castle wall.It took me three tries as the attacker to beat this map, wich was fun. On the other hand, defending was quite impossible as I explained above. Keep submitting your maps. Take your time and playtest every one of them a few times on each difficulty setting, as attacker, then defender. And work the land a little more as well. If you follow the advice that can be found in the Scenario Design section on the Forum, from the excellent designers here, I will be giving you a higher score in no time. Keep up the good work, and play hard.

Another review per request of author.

Playability: Not bad. I remember playing the original version and agree with Sir Deacon's comments. It is quite an interesting map overall, and it took me a few attempts to win. Kept me interested as I battled on!

Balance: Once you play a map through and learn what to expect, the second time around you should be able to progress much further. This I did, and it was a little tough but I managed to win with limited troop loss (one of my better days?). The challenge is there, but it's not overly demanding. You can play this as both attacker and defender if you want, but the most fun comes from attacking.

Creativity: I do love historical recreations if done well. This is a decent castle to recreate for a siege, and the author has done okay here. It just lacks a bit of substance, noted in the remaining categories.

Map Design: Generally okay. Some nice additional touches from the original castle that adds to gameplay, notably the slightly different entrances and moat around the front wall. The castle is done okay, but looking into Conway before playing, I thought the resemblance could have been done a little better. The terrain is fine, but a little bland. If more time were invested in modelling the landscape and the castle, this could score highly.

Story/Instructions: Unfortunately, there isn't much substance here. A historical write-up in the zip file would really set the scene, as would a brief introduction to the map by way of a basic story.

Overall, not a bad map by any means. It's certainly worth looking into if you have played the first effort. I find sieges the hardest of all maps to recreate, and recreate well. This is a good effort.
