A solitary well stands on the crossroad of two desert trails at the site of Tavuk.
It is the only water point for many miles around.
You are the commanding officer of a small garrison in the village of Tavuk. The protection of the well is essential,
because it means life in the barren desert. A tax amount is to be paid for the utilization of the well by passing traders.
Your mission is to raise an important amount for the financing of the local crusade operations.
Be prepared for trouble coming from bandits and arab raiders.

This is my first map ever submitted for Stronghold Crusader.
Therefore I would appreciate any comment so that I can improve my mapmaking.

Additional Comments:
A great all around scenario! This has everything, battle, college level economics, and a well. But the well got destroyed early on by bandits (macemen). You need to figure out a way to get gold, so increasing taxes is the key. But increasing taxes comes with a price, and you cant invest too heavily in wheat farms (or anything that has a too high wood cost) because you have to buy all your wood. The ever present macemen and horse archers attack and destroy anything they can get to, so the risk of losing something that costs 15 wood (60 gold) is high. Just build cheap stuff so if it gets destroyed then you can build another one. For example, I went through about 5 different granaries, one lost to bandits and 4 to find out the perfect placement for apple farms. It is a fact that the placement of the granary in relation to the apple farm yields a bigger crop per season (see articles on this site about that fact). If you place a granary front entrance directly behind the shack of the apple farm, you get a double crop every season.

This map is well thought-out and keeps you working towards the gold (I use gold condtions in all my custom scenarios). There are frequent bandit attacks, but taken care of by archers on top of the keep. The market availablity is restricted, but in a way to limit your building and troops. Dont buy swords because you cant make kinghts, for instance.

Well of Tavuk

Yeah, sometimes good things come in small packages! Here’s another creative map by Waitandsee that kept me on my toes for a while, at least during the starting years. In deed, there’s a little well being the focus of attention at the beginning. However, you’ll soon notice that the major challenge is a continuous lack of wood that you have to deal with.
I started to place four (cheaper) apple orchards, which allowed me to raise food consumption up to doubled rations. Thus, I could raise taxes as well and from now on by the incoming amount of gold, I was able to purchase important wood planks to establish a well-growing economy.
Three fletchers (2 x bows, 1-x crossbows) were producing enough weapons to be prepared for the periodically increasing invasions. I had to rebuild my quarries three times when those troublesome bandits repeatedly brought my stone production to a standstill for a short time.
Economically, I replaced the apple farms by 1 wheat farm, 1 dairy farm and 1 hops farm step-by-step. As soon as bread production was running pretty well I concentrated on fulfilling the gold objective: Two inns and a couple of chapels gave me sufficient bonus points for a higher popularity (cruel taxes!)

This map has a high factor of re-playability, but there’s just one thing I didn’t understand: Why are iron mines available in your building menu if you’re unable to place them up on the southern hills?

Balance is sensitively tuned, no glitches at all, however the final invasions still might be a little bit tougher.

Creativity is excellent, nothing to criticize here. The author knows how to stage his ideas. The concept and originality of this map deserve 5 points, in my opinion.

Map Design:
I liked this simple but convincing layout of a meager desert without any trees and the secluded stone deposit to say nothing of the central nice well with the stony ways coming from four directions. Well done!
Just a brief story. The essence is short and to the point. Perhaps a few clearer hints might be helpful for those who possibly should be stuck with the beginning.

I recommend playing this fine map, very suitable to train your skill and your abilities!

Thanks for taking time to review this map.

Actually, you can build one single iron mine.
There is only one suitable place to construct it.
It is situated on the extreme southwest corner of the southern hills near the sign post.
Perhaps I should have mentioned this in the story. But being my first map, I thought some search by the players would be fun.

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed playing this first try.

peter2008 Nice mission, challenging as for choices on how to develop. Determination is called for. Later you can expand just for fun.
It might help to invest in some weapons very early.
