The Sacking of Corbridge, Sept 8, 1311

Author File Description
Sir Deacon
File Details
Map Size: 400x400 (Large)
Difficulty: Hard
On September 8, 1311, Robert the Bruce and his army linked up with James Douglas and his men in Douglasdale and the forest of Selkirk. He first raised the lands of the pro-English Earl of Dunbar, and then crossed the Cheviot Hills into Northunberland. From there, in a wide sweep over the plains to Redesdale, he burned and looted the crops that were ripening for harvest, drove south as far as Corbridge, and put it to the torch.

Not up to par with your other maps Sir Deacon!

PLAYABILITY: The only somewhat contested spot on the map is the entrance to the bridge - and it is easily defeated. After the bridge is breached, it is easy to flank the rest of the defense and pick them off like dominos.

BALANCE: Out of balance in favor of the Attacker when a human plays as the Attacker. Not enough concentrations of defenders to put up a real fight.

CREATIVITY: Another bridge scenario, but this bridge has some added touches which look quite nice.

MAP DESIGN: Above average, but plenty of room for more detail.

STORY/INSTRUCTIONS: Documentary-type story. Fine for a historical secnario, but I keep waiting for a designer to give us historical background embedded in a real story, instead of giving us the PBS version.
PS (and not scored): "raising farmland" means building or constructing it, e.g: "They raised a barn". "razing farmland" means destroying it.

This scenario is worth downloading and playing, but will not be as strong a challenge as many of Sir Deacon's other maps are.
