Title: Advantaged Land

Author: Ictl

Description: After successfully defeating the cruel lord in the barren land (see This Barren Land), you decide to feast upon your victory. The people like you very much, but you explain to them that you must continue on your journey. You allow one of your men to take control of the encampment while you're away.

You find an abandend castle not far. It is in good shape and has some natural advantages formed by the rocky landscape. You decide to stay here for a while. Whilethe peasants happily give you a tour of the castle, you notice that there are five different marketplaces surrounding the keep. They explain that a rouge trader called Charles, the brother of Fordian, has once taken control of the castle and intends to "rip-off" other traders. You quickly destroy these marketplaces, only to find one of your knights that stayed at the encampment comes riding up to you...

You learn that the castle encampment in the barren land has been set alight by none other than your arch-enemy Maldon. However, you cannot take revenge just yet as on of your scribes tells you that a massive joint army of Maldon and Charles is heading straight towards the castle! You immediately station your archers on the towers and begin improving the castle's defences...

Your task is simple. Hold out the castle long enough for the carter to deliver food and emergency supplies from the castle here to the encampment in the barren land.

P.S. There is a bug. The troops at the top don't attack. I think it's because of the stairs. Still, it makes you train more troops to eliminate them

This map is a rough draft, simply put. The castle is complete and has a moat. The castle is also filled with redundant and almost randomly placed buildings (4 apothocaries for instance). There are about 10 seeming random events that occur a few years in. These are not spaced very well and seem to run all ten events into one.

Balance: 2
You begin with a LARGE assorment of starting goods, weapons, and armor. The granary is full and you have no problem with making food. The castle is already built up. This map is a good example of: Robbing the player of the enjoyment of using strategy to place his buildings. They are already placed (IMHO, haphazardly).

Creativity: 2.5
The castle on here is big and detailed, but in a simple, rough draft like way. Also the raised land and river crossing are mass produced (holding down the mouse button and drawing them in patterns). There is no realistic feel to the map, but the castle layout comes close. Again, this looks like a uncompleted effort that ended abruptly. After the castle was done, some quick terrain features were drawn in.

Map Design: 2
Barely any thought on this part. The castle shows the lions share of the author's effort on this one. The rest is rough draft quality.

Story/Instructions: 4.5
The story is much better than the map. And all the authors stories run together as one interesting plot. NICELY DONE.

Additional Comments:
Nothing special, except the college level storyline.
