I've had this castle on my hard drive for a while, back before Stronghold 2, I designed this castle by looking at some old maps I was able to locate. There are differing versions of the layout for the castle therefore I molded them all together. As far as the terrain goes, it isn't accurate except for the existence of a moat via the river, and rocky terrian.
I needed special help from Jalis to make the invasions occur continously, for that I am appreciative.
Special:
As an apology to all those who downloaded the older file that I uploaded accidently, I'm attaching 3 maps of the layout of Chateau Gaillard. Jalis had found 2 of them, and the other is one very nice one that I came across. So you can see what are my influences on the construction of this magnicificant fortress. If any of you are interested in editing it (it would have to be a pre-invasion version due to the way the patch changes the handling of maps, so I locked this version) contact me and I'll send you an older map of it with just the layout. ;)
Playability: 2
Made some obvious troop movements (some of the archers were placed on the ground for example) and then sat back and watched. A long siege...way too long actually.
Balance: 1
I'm not sure if it was impossible, but it sure was too hard for me.
Creativity: 3
Historical castle...not much to say, you have although remodelled the castle dramatically.
Map Design: 2
This doesn't at all look like Chateau Gaillard. It had no water-filled moats and is placed on high ground for example. And there is high ground running up to the walls?
Rest of the mas was pretty basic, a generous 2.
Story/Instructions: 2
Also rather basic, mostly historical facts.
