This is the most famous true African adventure. Famous because what took place at Tsavo never happened before. Col John Patterson was there when it begun. Your mission: To build a bridge across the river Tsavo. Can you do that?

-Build temporary bridge
-Collect 60 stone
-Eradicate lions

"In 1895, the construction of railway going from Monbasa to Kampala (Uganda) began. It took 8 years and it required 31,900 Indian workers to complete this mammoth work. In the summer of 1898, the construction of the railway suddenly stopped at the Tsavo river area as lion's attacks took place along a 80 mile stretch of railroad between Voi and Kima. It has been estimated than 28 people were killed but many believed that at least 100 peoples were victims of the devil lions. Hysteria built to a such pitch that on 1st December 1898, thousands of workers threw themselves across the railroad tracks, interrupting work indefinitely. J.H. Patterson, British Chief engineer directing the construction of the bridge over the Tsavo river, attempted night after night to catch the maneless lions by creating special traps, using poison and maintaining 24-hours watch. While most workers had fled to the coast, Patterson fired four shots on the night of December 10, killing the first man-eater lion. It measured nine feet, eight inches (3 m) from nose to tip of tail and it took eight men to carry the carcass back to camp. They also notice that the lion had a broken lower canine with an exposed root. After the first lion was shot, no more human were killed. Eighteen nights later, on December 29, he killed the second man-eater lion and life returned to the rail camps. Patterson was free to turn his attention and skills to the railroad and his thousands of men could once again work and sleep in the open.
No one knows why an animal can become a man-eater. Some believe that the dead workers left along the railroad gave an opportunity to become accustomed to human flesh. The two maneless lions are in the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago, Illinois) as Patterson sold to the museum the lion skins and skulls for the 5,000 USD. The story f J.H. Patterson continues to capture the imagination today and has been made into a motion picture twice: Bwana Devil in 1952 and The Ghost and the Darkness in 1996."

This map is meant to portray that dire business. Get the bridge built despite the hardships, and then mine and transport enough stone to complete it. Oh yeah, take care of the local wildlife.

It seems I made an error in judgement, as I thought the author had made a mistake with a certain element of the map. It appears that he did not, and that it was simply to add a realistic challenge to the map, which sounds very intriguing, and I will definatly play again to try and find the solution. Great job Lollard, I will now give this a 5! :)

Balance: 5
The map is balanced, and the lion and slave attacks keep the player busy, but not too busy to remove his ability to manange the economy. The map was challenging and fun. Good job!

Creativity: 5
Lollard appears to be a creative genius when it comes to map design. Have you thought of working for firefly?? Because the quality of your maps is professional, and they are all well designed. Keep up the outstanding work!

Other then the small stone issue I had, I found this map to be of proffesional level design. Fantastic job Lollard! :D

Story/Instructions: 5
Yet again Lollard produces a fantastic and historically correct and appropriate storyline. The map is near perfect, and the storyline IS perfect. Excellent!

Additional Comments:
Even with limited structures and troops, Lollard can make a map that is worthy of a proffessional games designer. Great Job Lollard! Keep up the good work, and keep up the helpful reviews, I've read some of your reviews (including one for my own map :D) and I thought they were very helpful and professionally done. This map is fully deserving of a perfect score, well done!

Ps. If you get a chance could you rate another of my maps, preferably one (or all :P) of the Tellahran maps? I really appreciate your helpfull and positive feedback, even when the map is appauling you can pick out the good points and help people fix the bad points.

I made building the bridge complicated because I wanted to represent actual construction problems. The one square water you tried to short cut around is one of the puzzles on here. But thank you very much for the review and I will look at your other maps today.

Now that I was able to cross over successfully the map was a great deal more playable, my only issue is that because it is such a small map and there are limited buildings that you run out of things to do in some points of the game, besides that the strugles with food and gold not to mention the lion attacks keeping you on your toes all tie in nicely with the map.

Balance: 4
The balance was great, the first attack is one that I'm not sure is needed, they really have no effect, apart from that the strugle you have created is a good one. Food and gold with the atacks, and trying to mine stone, i feel you have done justice to C. Paterson, I have heard of the accounts and am a huge fan of the move. Good job!

Creativity: 3.5
Now that I was able to play the map I can see your creative spark, the distancing of stone as well as farmland tied in with every other aspect is a creative one which gives the player a challenge. Nicely done.


Map Design: 3
Nothing too appealing here, the moat seperates the cliffs and we see an unbuildable wall, or bridge. a few tress som stone on the unreachable side and a mass of shrubs is all there is I'm afraid it is lacking a bit in every part. I feel you could have used some more stones in the blank areas and different grass types, i know desert terrain is a bit of a pain in the neck but if you stick with it you'll get better.

Story/Instructions: 3
The story is based of fact, however they are obviously of a site and what story that was retyped isnt that long, the site provided is a good one full of information however you could have created your own retell instead. I have lifted the score becasue my ability to finish the map ads value to this map in my eyes.

Additional Comments:
A good map here from lollard, my opinion on others needing to read review guidlines still stands, this map isn't a 5 but im sure that if lollard pesists in his map making he will go far.
A great challenge which is quite entertaining, short and sweet,but a great challenge give it a go!
