"My Dear Abbott, you look positively exhausted since that fracas at the Monastery. Why don't you take a break, get away from it all for a while?" Doubletongue grinned, "I know just the place ... "
Tired and weary, you agree to the slithery one's offer and take passage to Southern Iberia, where he owns a small villa. However upon your arrival you realise the full truth of the situation.
Doubletongue had forged an unlikely trade alliance with both the Bishop of Baldlistingshire and the Wazir Al Buh Jheen. The deal was to supply the King of Spain with 400 bars of iron, which he will collect in the summer of 1144. Alas, true to form, once the majority of the goods were ready, Doubletonuge hijacked the deal and wants the iron for his own ends.
You have been dumped here at the villa to defeat the Wazir and crush the Bishop and his religious influence, seize the iron supply and get the hell out of there before the King shows up.
* Collect 400 Iron
* Destroy The Enemy Cathedral
* Eliminate All Enemy Units
* Blessed 1%
this is a highly playable map in my opinion,as it has two seperate endings,allow me to explain(1)when you kill the enemy lords you get the iron in the stockpiles near your keep-obvious yes,the stone is easy to quarry you just neeed to press the space bar for optimal viewing.the iron ore can be mined -again use the space bar.(2)the second ending for the lovers of huge battles ,when you killed and captured the enemy lords and their resources just delete a stockpile that has iron on it.why you ask-i'll tell you-the challenge you have trying to defend three keeps towards the end is seemingly impossible even if you place all your troops at the sign post,they get slaughtered-we all know that melee troops are no match for swords etc.
this is a balanced map if you stick to option one,regarding the amount of iron needed to win,other wise the small iron deposit isnt quite enough,but then option two wouldnt happen and you'd get away before the King turns up!
A very creative map,it has the feel of a skirmish map when you start playing(even better in map editor mode where the two lords are attacking each other and any of your troops that get too close!What would help would be the option of hunters' posts,all those pesky rabbits!
Map Design: 4
A well designed map,just the right amount of arable land to grow crops,too gain more farmland you need plenty of woodcutters though if needed.
The story,well the plot is good,almost pythonesque,not a very long story as some go but it expains why you are here and what the snakes' motivation is-gold!but you don't always a long story-is there a follow up planned for crusader?
Additional Comments:As i have already said was it the authors' intention for two endings? i say yes-which gives it a replay of 5.0 if you fancy a challenge-it took me a little longer to 'cede' the castle due to the assasins that were hiding around the map.As for running three keeps(estates if you prefer)that was a challenge towards the end when the multiple invasions showed up.
