Percival's Adventures I

Minimap:
The medieval Legend of Sir Percival portrays a pure but naive knight. Because of his purity, Percival finds the castle of the keeper of the grail, Anfortas. But because of his naiveté, he fails to ask Anfortas about his illness. This question would have released him and made Percival the new keeper. Alas, he keeps his mouth shut and has to leave the castle.
This leads to Percival travelling around quite a bit, hoping to find a clue as to how to obtain the grail. The series of invasions, I am planning to do, sort of presents the lost episodes of this journey. Episode one is set in the woods of Lacravur.
Here Percival hunts a great boar and kills it. Only the boar then turns into an old man an utters a curse. Percival then encounters some woodcutters, who tell him that the boar was the former lord of Lacravur. He was turned into a boar by his wife, who is a witch, for cheating on her. Yet she protected him with a curse from hunters. Anyone, who would kill the boar, she announced, would bring upon him the rage of the forest. He wouldn't be able to leave the forest and would be hunted himself by the creatures of the wood.
Apparently the only way to escape the spell is to cut down enough trees to weaken the magic power of the wood. Percival thus strikes a deal with the woodcutters to help him escape. He also learns from them that there are bandits in the woods who have a haunt for ale. They might be willing to help Percival against the army from the wood, if he only offers them a steady supply.

Average playability not very much events or Invasions.

Balance: 1
Very easy map just buy ale and build an Inn, you get 30 archers long enough to defend and get 200 wood.

Creativity: 4
pretty creative to make the map of Sir Percivale and the story is nice.

Map Design: 3
fairly good map design.

Story/Instructions: 5
The Story was excellent you kill the boar and have to chop down the forest. You have woodcutters all over the keep like in the story very nice. One thing though you said creatures of the wood there were no wolf attacks, no bears or wolfs on the map either.

Additional Comments:Make the map harder so you cant just buy something and get troops.

I had some time to catch up on some of the ratings of the maps that looked interesting from the recent past. So I played this work by Joringel. What a delight to read and look at. But this map doesnt have the bite to go along with its bark! The invasions are wimpy and you easily can get 200 wood together on normal difficulty. I guess if you played this on a higher difficulty, it would be more of a challenge, but I have to say the average player would find this dull on action.

Balance: 3
Getting a low population drinking 50 % ale isnt hard. Also you dont have to worry about food, even though the farms are turned off. So get the wood together and plop a inn down and you are done.

The tale of Percival is interesting. I am facinated by Arthurian Legend, and wrote many papers on the subject in college. Nice subject and write up. Here is a little more:

"And that forest was a forest of magic; for you are to know that it was the Forest of Arroy, sometimes called the Forest of Adventure, Sir Percival enters the Forest of Arroy. Which was several times spoken of in the book of King Arthur. For no one ever entered into that forest but some singular adventure befell him."

Map Design: 4
I like the maps appearance and natural forest setting. The river and beach are well done. To make venison (deer) the only food source, you should put a few more herds next time.

Story/Instructions: 5
Again I am giving this the maximum, because I like the subject matter. Nice change to see some good writing for a map for once!

Additional Comments:
Thinking of giving this a miss? Well dont because this is great work that should be downloaded and played to get the full value of the author's hard work. GOOD.
