Fiery Maze - Grass Valley Edition
This is my version of Fiery (spelled correctly) Maze. Its completely new. I put Sir Steele's name on the map somewhere like he wanted me to. Look for it in the landscape. His "firery" maze map enlightened me, and then I made this. So, I thought I would put a religious themed goal on this map - to represent the discovery (inspired) of the maze/fire idea. Enjoy
You are a native lord, who has made settlement in a deep Valley - named Grass Valley by the ancients. Exotic plants, bubbling jet-black pools of oil, and a narrow but deep meandering river are some of the features of your new homeland. The people grow and harvest apples, hunt native deer, and of course scoop out as much flammable pitch out of the bog to use in defense of their lordship (You)! (lord death: lose condition) The other native peoples will attack your home, "Grass Valley" and attempt to take your pitch resource and then also control the only access to the other side of the valley. This access is the steep path in the corner by the oil pool. The market is available, but the selection is quite small. This reflects the markets isolated starting location. Check out the unique work on some of the river. Some people dressed in black have been spotted around the maypole. You must investigate this rumor. This is reachable and please enjoy my version of Fiery Maze - Grass Valley Edition.

Thanks for the review. This map was a side project, and I really gave it quite a bit of effort and thought. Also, check out my new article,
Simple vs. Complex
An opinion article on map design.

Very nice article. Its a good read, and it has certainly encouraged me to give simpler map designing a go. Thx for the insight into better map making,

i agree with Skaarj, it's a bit too easy, all i have to do is give people extra food and -4 on tax, wait until the enemy invade you then you should have about 15 pitch, sell them all, and put tax on -24(max) and wait for a while until you have 1k money(you can destroy good stuff you get money)
and then i use up all my melee troops with slingers to kill the enemy assasins and build a church and wait for 1 more minute and you win
but you didnt have to make an "S S" on the map XD cuz all i said is to put my name on the post |

Not every map has to be endless invasions and super tough! I wanted to make something different than just kill a bunch of mindless dudes that just keep walking forward in the maze until they are shot or burned. Anyone can make that. Plus you should be thanking me, because of the exposure you are getting.

Yah, i see your point Lollard, and I actually thought the map was fantastic (thus 4.8 score out of 5), i loved the scenery and carefully planned choice of buildings and the locations of pre-existing buildings etc. The only reason I didnt give it a 5, is because some players (not me) might come out of that map unsatisfied because it didnt fully challenge them. However, I am not one of those players, and I thought the map was pretty close to perfect. Great map design, as usual its worthy of a professional.
Thanks,
Skaarj |

Do NOT destroy wells.I made that mistake to get money. Right after deletion, there was a fire event. |

Map plays fine with no errors. Since the rater didnt elaborate on the problems he had, I can only assume that he didnt play it and just randomly picked ratings for the categories. I request to have it removed for no basis.
